I am enrolled in the same class starting 1/2014. I would be very interested to get others input as well. I have been reading reviews this afternoon and unfortunately have been readding many negatives. Look forward to hopefully seeing you in class.

I'm from WI and know two people that went there long ago and they didn't exactly sing the praises of it. Why wouldn't you look at one of the 3 tech colleges in WI that offer CDL training for less $ in tuition? The tech college cost is roughly $2300 for 8 weeks (10 at FVTC) plus the cost of housing/rent. You also have RDTC in Marshfield and you don't have to drive for Roehl. I definitely would not go there but that's me. I wish you the best but please look at other options before you plunk money down at a school like that. It's got a crappy reputation for a reason from what I can tell. I don't think it's improved much and yes I see the ads in the paper to go to their CDL permit class. I'm surprised people fall for it but I shouldn't be.

I went to the Sun Prairie last year. If I had it to do all over again I would have went to one of the Tech schools. Sun Prairie teachs you just enough to get your CDL and nothing more and then they charge you almost 5 Grand for doing it. The Tech schools are half of the money and from what I hear better training.

My experience with them is 20 years old.
Back then, they were a 3 week mill.
Dirt lots.
Cabovers and day cabs.
3rd. party road test.
I tested in a 1989 International cabover (it was their best truck, and possibly the only one that would pass inspection for road use).
Had one truck's stacks start on fire one day....and an instructor calmly walked over, opened the door, pulled the PTO plunger out to lock in 2500 rpm., and simply let it blow the carbon out the stacks until the fire went out (can tell it wasn't his first rodeo).
I paid $3,000 BACK THEN...but that included the hotel and everything (had to go home on weekends or pay for your room through the weekend---I drove home each time).
I graduated 3rd. out of 120 students---and none of that meant anything to most trucking companies, with the schools reputation.
The only advantage I had back then, that students don't have today....is even though 30 or 40 companies turned me down immediately because THAT was the school I went to---I found a little company in my area that gave me a shot just based on the diploma, and a road test. Paid me $.26 cpm in 1993 without having to go with a trainer...I thought I had the world by the nads. LOL!!! -
Went there... cdl mill school... wish I went to fox valley

I went to sun prairie driving school in march of 1997. Cabovers and two conventional's tractors i believe there were 3 trainers and they were all a joke! First day or so there was a drug test and half the class didn't come back! -LOL Second day was the finance lady telling everyone that there financing fell through and everyone needs to come up with the money 2,000-4,000 thousand. Many people used credit cards or called home to get money wired to the school. I unfortunately didn't have financial backing and told the lady I'm leaving because i cannot pay and she said dont worry we will work with you. Turns out the school financed me and they just wanted there money upfront and lied to everyone left who was assumed drug free! I had little training and maybe 4 hours total driving with the instructor. The instructor was focused on those who couldn't shift the truck. There is way more to my 14 day class . Anyway it was road test time with the driving instructor from the state and i could not shift the truck! It was a international 9670 cabover with a cable shift . I trained in a FLD120 and was not familiar with this hard to shift cabover i had never driven until now. Needless to say the instructor from the state was reaching over the dog house to shift the truck and told me he already failed 8 people and didn't wanna fail me too! I received my diploma and went to work at ATS in st.cloud Minnesota and my 6 week trainer was a great guy. I'm still driving today . BTW March 1997 Ats paid me .28 cents per mile and i banked some serious cash until inflation hit our economy in or around 2003. Trucking is not what it once was and I'm glad i trucked in the good old days without electronic devices causing accidents and people to be unsociable. Too bad all the restaurants closed up due to fast food..
desperado75 Thanks this.
