I have used bunk heaters both webasto and espar. Espar is my preferred choice. I haven't used a block heater other than the plug in, and that is rare. I haven't seen the need for the block heater, if it gets down below about -20 I will idle it, which was only 1 night last year. Block heater would just mean I get heat faster; so I am chilly for a while at the start of my day.... no big deal.

It isn't really a block heater, but my apu keeps my coolant temp somewhat warm, and my batteries charged on cold nights.
mitmaks Thanks this. -
Ive got espar bunk heater and tripac apu circulates coolant/keeps it warm and charges batteries

I prefer Espar, easier to service. But if you’re off road a lot the Webasto seem to stand up better to the abuse.

It doesn't look too hard to put a coolant heater in.
Personally I was thinking about getting a Honda generator and an oil warmer. Then I could run ac in the summer.Last edited: Oct 21, 2017

I have a 2200 generac in an aluminium tool box, just open the door when I run it. Burns about 1.5 gallon of gas per 10 hours. Runs my ceramic heater and a block heater if I don't run them together.
