EZpickens.I hear you loud and clear on the household movers guide pay system.Most of the big outfits use it and you are right,you take a royal screwing under this system.You are lucky to get paid for 75%of your actual miles driven.I just retired and my last job was with Roehl transport.They pay on the practical mile system,which aint perfect ,but its a whole lot better than the household movers system.On a lot of my runs I would beat their pd.miles,and many times the pd.miles were right on the money.This makes a world of difference when it comes to getting paid.Just another thing to ck.out when you are looking for a driving job.Example,under the household movers system if you get pd.for 2500 miles you are actually driving about 3000 to 3400 miles to get pd.for 2500.Under the practical miles you would be driving about 2500 to 2600 to get pd.for your 2500 miles.Quite a difference,and remember your logbook has to reflect your actual miles,not your pd.miles.

 

I can't believe companies short their drivers by using Household miles...with all the sacrifices an otr trucker makes to move their freight, you would figure at least the companies would actually pay for each mile driven...

I have to agree with the deal about the house hold movers miles.

What get's me the companies wants you to drive fruther burn up more fuel so they are spending 50.00 or more extra on fuel, than pay 10.00 to 50.00 in tolls. Not to mention the extra wear and tear on the trucks.

 

Coastie,it aint that the truckin companies are routing their trucks and drivers more miles,its just that they are not paying the drivers for the miles they drive.I have heard thru the grapevine that quite a few companies are going to the practical mile pay scale.The only company that I know using the practical mile program is Roehl,although I am sure there are others out there.A lot of these drivers who are only getting 1500 to 2000 miles a week,would be getting about 2500 pd.mis.under the practical mile pay scale.In other words they are actually getting 2500 mis.but they are not getting pd.for it.In my case I was making much more money at Roehl at $.38 a mi.than I was at Swift malking $.40 a mi.

 

Ok, I'll admit that I may be slow, and not always the sharpest knife in the drawer, but what is "CHIZLE MILES?"

 

Does anyone have information on Dick Lavy? Good or Bad!

 

is it possible for them to travel to the west coast? San Francisco, California in particular?

I've been trucking since 88.
I've been job hunting for 3 wks.
I just went to Dick Lavy's web site , then came here.
There no sense in me going back to Lavy's website for an App. Thanks for the posts.
I'm waiting on a reply from Roehl , (practical miles) , they're processing my App and verifying work history .
JB wants me in orientation Monday the 26th of Nov , I asked them if the PPG acct pays practical miles and the way they said yes led me to believe I'd better talk to the hiring manage for that acct.
Shaffer , (practical miles) but maximum 400watt inverters , no TV or microwave , but I'll be home every 6 days. I may decide to live with that. They're working diligently to verify my work references and get me before JB does.
However , Roehl is my top choice to start national Van . In the Spring at 51yrs old I may elect to try the Flatbed training and see if it will work for me. I need the flatbed experience , I have a little tanker experience from 3 yrs ago , and a ton of Hazmat LTL with Jevic and New century.
My biggest hope was Dynamic transit out of Granite city IL , everything sounded pretty good , like they were gonna move on me. Then I had to have a fridge for west coast home every 3rd weekend , for medical reasons to keep an injection chilled , It's for R/A twice a month. All of a sudden they're telling me I had a bad work reference.
I hate that crap , I have my own Frigidaire I bring with me and if its too big I can pu a smaller one at wally world or lowes. All the recruiter needed was an okay from equipment for a truck with and inverter , or one with a fridge. That's too much to ask when looking at hiring a driver with 24 yrs I guess. They have to lie to ya cause it's illegal to discriminate from hiring for a medical reason that doesn't interfere with the work the applicant applied for. I was told most of the trucks had one or the other but there a few that don't. Barr-Nunn pulled the same crapola 3yrs ago on me . If you have a Medical condition people my new advice is don't tell them squat til hired and in the truck. Then if the truck needs an inverter tell them you will get one and put it in.For medical need. Gobble Gobble y'all , don't over do it.
