Like the title says, which Detroit Series 60 engine is better? The 2005-2006 DDEC V or the 2007-2010 DDEC VI? I know that the engine wiring harnesses, turbo, injectors and head are different so was the DDEC 6 an improvement or step backwards?
Detroit Series 60 DDEC V or DDEV VI, which one is better?

If I’m not mistaken DDEC 6 you can’t delete EGR without reprogramming the ECM, DDEC 5 is a simple $2 part.
your choice should be based on that if you want an EGR or not. -
@LondRanger, please explain more. What is the $2 part that disables the EGR? What if the DDEC 6 was already deleted? My question was focused on the engine internals to see which one is better.

This can help you a bit to make your decision.

As far as the $2 part that’s something you need to research on your own, all it does it permanently closes the EGR making it think it’s at 8000 feet elevation which allows the turbo to always work if I’m understand what the mechanic told me. -
I read Wikipedia a long time ago. I know about the Uglyfix but its $100, not $2. The resistor may be $2.

Ddec5 all the way. Steer clear of a ddec6. Nothing but grieff
spsauerland Thanks this. -
We had a few of each in the fleet for a while. None that where deleted. With out counting the after-treatment issues with the VI. (Most of the issues we had with the newer model were probably caused by the back pressure from the after treatment). The injectors had to operate in closer tolerances and had to be changed multiple times (under warranty) and the valve train (cams, rockers arms and bushings) wore very poorly.
So side by side, without egr or aftertreatment I really can say which would be better, but as built from the factory. The V is the better engine to own. -
@swaan and Working2party: Thank you for your replies. That's what I was looking for.
