Can any one tell me where detroit measures the injector height from. I can't find a injector height tool anywhere without oredering one and waiting. I've used the injector height tools before but need to know where Detroit gets the measurement from. It appears to come from the top of the hole in the injector hold down clamp.I can make one but I don't know if Detroit gets the measurement from the bottom of the little hole that the injector height tool goes in or the top. My engine is calling for a 82.1mm or 3.23". If someone has a height tool & a caliper close by and can measure from where the tool sets on the injector down to 3.23" if it's a 82.1mm and tell me if it goes all the way to the end or not. Really if anyone has any size injector height tool and a caliper and can measure this it will answer my question.

When in doubt Google it. 82.1 MM is 3.23228 inches you can use a vernier caliper. it is measured from the flat of the body near the hole to the top of the injector plunger cap. If you plan on doing your own work buy the proper guage from a Detroit dealer, it makes doing the set a lot easyer.
    Just a thought.

Thanks for the help. I would like to buy the proper tool but the dealers here in Waco Texas have to order everything. You answered my question perfectly. No need for the tool I'll just use my caliper.

Just get the right tool. I have no idea how you'd use a caliper.

You can you use a caliper in a pinch but order a tool from the dealer. Setting the inj's is as much about feel as anything.
