I was driving today in ohio and at the toll gate my cascadia just shut on me . I was able to crank it up from second attempt , engine was running rough for 30sec at 300-400rpm so i was able to move from the gate to the shoulder , replaced fuel filters - same thing , 30 sec rough run , disconnected return fuel line from the head to find out that fuel is not going out at all , replaced fuel pump - same , figured out that air compressor shaft is broken after putting everything back together and fuel never came out of the fuel pump to the secondary fuel filter . Tried to start the truck with bucket of fuel -same ... guess meaning fuel lines ok . Waiting for the towing to come bring me to the shop for air compressor replacement in the morning . I was wondering what are the chances of stripped gear or any other issue beside air compressor shaft broken ?
Detroit air compressor shaft broken ?

We had that exact thing happen. It broke between the two cylinders, so it even pumped a little air. Took us most of a day to figure it out. It would start and run just a little, then die out. Best wishes.

What does the air compressor have to do with fuel supply?

Please update when you have more info. I had some chattering in the compressor/gear area yesterday that went away. Hopefully the gears are ok.

I have a shim or spacer ( whatever its called ) between front plate and air compressor that had one of the gears got loose due to cotter pin destroyed holding it on the shaft . Spacer with gears is $1800 from dealer and its non existent in north America at the moment ( junk yard 250 ) , shaft dont even have key hole or something to hold cotter key in place , Detroit dealer advised to add additional washer and torque the nut holding the gear with gun ( dealer did twice within a year and no one came back ) , so 28 hours and $2000( road service, towing andshop labor ) later i was back on the road meeting midwest snow storm on i80 from toledo to iowa . So far 1000 miles - all good . Repair shop was very reasonable , knowledgeable and honest from start to finish .
