We have an issue with a 2011 Detroit 60 ac compressor mount. Over the past few months the top bolt on the mount keep breaking and then backing out and rubbing on the ac/alternator/water pump belt. We have tried using grade 8 bolts as a replacement and they keep breaking. Any suggestions or after market parts that we can change this out with?

Is that a 3/8" bolt in a 10mm bolt hole? How tight are you tightening it?

the original size hole was 7/16 so we coverted it to 1/2 inch. This bolt has snapped off probably 6 times in the past few months. We have tried hand tight, lock tite, impact tight, longer bolts. Literally everything. Yesterday the mechanic cleaned all the surfaces around each of the holes with a light grind just to flatten out any imperfections. We were able to then slide 2 washers inside each mount hole and sort of “shim” it so there was no more freeplay. Hoping this solves it cause some of the other suggestions to “change the compressor to a rotary one” seem wrong in that. This compressor is acting as a pully only atm. (Compressor is unplugged)

I had the same problem. The bolt holes on the front cover get egged out allowed the bolts to move. Best bet is to get a different compressor that mounts using three bolts through the front cover instead of two. I did see a engine that had the bolt holes reamed out, then sleeved with a harder metal to run the bolts through. Guy said it was doing the job but I never saw him again so I can't tell if that worked. I saw another guy that changed to grade 8 bolts. Don't do that. His bolts lasted longer but ended up egging the holes in the block out too.

Thanks for the suggestions. What about the idea we had of just getting a belt from the alternator to the waterpump and cutting out the AC compressor all together? Have you heard of that or know of what type of belt that could do that?

Don't remember the part# but you can short belt it. Always had one in each of the trucks before ithey went to rotary.

So in your experience going to the rotary fixed the issue? Do you know the part number for it?

i Trade @ 3 years so i lived with the years that were the problem. Had a few front covers changed under warranty when they got too bad. Don't remember the year they changed to warranty. If the A/C is just there to run the belt, get a short one.

bumper Jack and CGYMIKE Thank this.
