Had one of our 2004 EGR 14.0L Detroits shut off for no reason. It would turn over without a sputter. Hooked up my laptop and DDDL and got the code - too many srs (missing trs). So I first pulled the srs sensor because its easy to get at and to eliminate that before I attempted the trs sensor. It tested good with the right resistance so next step was to pull the trs. After lots of fighting to get the perfect setup with the ratchet to actually be able to get the mounting off and removing it, I tried to pull it out. It would not budge at all, not in and out nor side to side or even able to rotate it. So I decided to take a long flat screw driver and tap the end of it off the mounting plate for the sensor. It still won't budge so I got the screw driver under the mount and gently tried to pry it out and it snapped right off!
So now im stuck on what to do with the near broken off flush to the block piece of trs sensor. Its in such a horrible spot to get at, I think to make any real attempt to be able to get it out im going to have to remove the power steering lines off the pump just to get me and tiny bit more room. I still don't know how im going to be able to remove it. With the rough edge that on the sensor broken off in the block I tried hiting it with a screw driver and hammer to break it free but to no avail. I don't understand how a sensor held in with a mounting plate and o-ring could be this stuck.
Anyone have any suggestions? Im not 100% of the material the internals of the sensor are made of but the outside is all plastic of course.
Appreciate any help you guys could give me.![]()

Remember this experience the next time your bill from a repair shop is more than you think it should be! This is the stuff we face all the time. The oring swells and gets hard as a rock. The hole the sensor slides into is now rusty and full of scale from the oring outwards wedging the sensor in even more. Some times we have to drill the sensor out. Use a small bit and get progressively bigger to the point where you can get some kind of hook to pull on the sensor from the inside. Sometimes you just have to chisel the sensor out piece by piece. Finally you can always drop the oil pan and try to pry it out from the inside.

EPS sensor is like an ABS sensor. Magnet, coil, plastic and dometimes stainless steel.
Sometimes it is damaged from inside the flightwheel area, from bellhousing. It may easily be damaged with pices of clutch parts, balls from clutch release bearing, dirt.... -
Where is this sensor at? just wonderd if i ever need to know heard of trs sensor is that the crank sensor ? thanks

could try a small propane torch--heat the are around it if you can get close enough
and try to turn the sensor with a chisel --the heat hopefully should brake up the scale -
If its on a western star like ours it will be hard to see. Its underneath the air compressor behind the metal coolant line that goes to the head of the compressor. Right like in the middle of the frame rail so its really hard to see. -

Had to drop the pan and pry it out from there with much difficulty. It was REALLY stuck, had to break it in about 10 pieces to get it out.

sometime you can screw a screw into the sensor and pull it out. sometimes that works. sometimes.
lhelmuth Thanks this. -
the last time I did crack sensor change on Renault, I drilled it out.
On some engines do it carefully. It is easy to damage flightweel pole ring on Mercedes Engines.
