No matter what brand the engine is, recipe is always same = marine or some other bigger injectors, bigger turbo, ECM programming and that's it. 1000+ horsepower easily from any modern engine over 12 liters.

Before you start all this power thing, you have an old truck, and the reason you drive it is to MAKE MONEY. Will your clutch, transmission, drive line, rear suspension, and rear ends, handle the extra power. How about the radiator, what is a 5 core worth, Charge air cooler, you will need new motor mounts. The longevity of the motor will be a lot less, and your fuel mileage will be a lot less. If you lived closser I would do the work for you. Just a thought!

I have yet drove a truck with a Detriot that has pulled worth a ####. I think the engines are garbage period. I don't see it fit to waste the time or money to fix one up. No way would I ever buy a truck with one in it. Not much choice when having to drive someone else's.

I have been doing this for a long time and, I have heard all the experts making all the big power and getting better fuel mileage. Well I do not want to be the bearer of bad news but it takes fuel to produce power. Can you with experience get better mileage than stock "yes". I was reading one post and the guy is saying he is running up to 3000 RPM well I can tell you that anything above 1800 and you are loosing, burning fuel, and producing heat, putting a lot of stress on the motor. Not a whole lot more, you want power do a valve set, be sure the rad and CAC are clean, have the CAC tested for leakage, check you fuel pressure and be sure it has no air in it. Do a flush in the cooling system, the more efficient you make every little system the more power you have to drive the truck and make you money. Just a thought!

But you also have to inject it the right time, stock engines don't do it. Retarded timing wastes fuel, it just makes heat, not power. When you change bigger turbocharger you lower backpressure and you don't need as much fuel to push exhaust gases out. It's kind of "free horsepower", less fuel, more power. In other word better efficiency. Remember I am talking about clean burning high hp engines, not those "cool" "turned up" amateur builds smoking like crazy.

When you have more power from same size engine you can climb hills faster with less gearchanges and again you use less fuel. That's a proven fact, by economy driving teachers, and by experienced drivers.
