Prospective trucker here. I'm wondering if its feasible to bring my desktop computer with me (I'm aware some companies may have polices against it). If possible, what are some requirements to run a desktop in a truck? I plan to mostly game during my down time (AAA titles like Fallout, Witcher, Battlefront, etc).

Here's the specs for my desktop (in progress of building)

the vibration from the truck could damage your compounds. huge, bulky, why not buy a laptop instead? Alienware, or asus rog laptop goes around that price. Plus that 850w power supply, you probably need atleast 1000-1500 inverter to run it.

Laptop gaming is behind me. I do have Asus G75VW with a GTX 660m that chugs along on low settings with sub 30 fps on these titles. I think the most powerful laptop has a GTX 980, but its around 3 grand........

I did some look into getting some of these to help reduce the vibration

I do have a 1500 inverter lying around.

Gaming rig desktop may not run off the typical 1500 watt inverter, and many companies won't even supply this level of inverter. It's not practical to have a desktop in truck. Even large gaming laptops can have trouble getting enough power to charge and run simultaneously. And what are you going to use for a monitor? Gaming through typical tv's suitable for truck use is going to be less then ideal given slow refresh speeds.

If you do not drive somewhere that offers APU's or allows for idling (to keep case cool in the summertime) you're likely going to have issues . Then there's is the space issue.

I knew there would be problems, especially as a company driver.

I planned on using a mounted 24 inch Dell 4k monitor.

Space was the reason I went with a smaller case with a horizontal layout that would be less prone being damaged.

Seems power may be my biggest issue.

I'm using a Shuttle Z77R5 in my truck with a 970gtx and a single solid state hard drive. It works on my standard truck. But I had used another truck for a few weeks and it didn't work on that inverter. (And it was an xantrex 1800 pro inverter installed by my company.)

So don't just assume "I have a 1500 watt inverter, that will work."

You'd need some way to get 120V.

mounting a 24" monitor will be your 1st problem.... most companies will not let you hard mount ANYTHING..... some will BUT change you $XX per hole you drill in the truck..... remember it's their truck
your invertor even if big enough my not run your desktop..... MOST invertors are "modified sine wave" (dirty power).... some electrics computers, tv, printer.....ect. REQUIRE "pure sine wave" (clean power like your house has).pure sine wave invertors can cost as much as 5X as much

running electrics on the invertor you will need to turn everything off if you need to start the truck for any reason..... the invertor will lose power when the truck starts and can fry some electrics with the power surge

laptops don't care because of the battery acts as a buffer...... they can take dirty power and the power surge of the truck starting also they are made to take the abuse

any online gaming will kill you...... data rates...!
