Just curious if id b askin for lotta trouble doin it, right now i got 11k on fuel filters and bout the last 2k my fuel pressure is where it should b at 85lbs, truck runs and pulls great plus gettin 6.4, soon as i throw on new cat filters fuel pressure will drop to 65, less power and ill get 5.6

Called cat and my primary is a 10 micron, sec is a 4 micron, guy at service station said cat filter have extra layer of filter material compared to fleetguard and cats are more restrictive,
Since primary is on vacum side of pump im trying to think how to get rid of so much restriction on primary

i havnt smoked crack lately so i know some probably think 11k on filtes and ur truck runs better???? Yup goin by fuel pressure they have better flow now from being wore out? plus i have clean tanks and fuel at same stations every week and rarely get bad fuel

If anyone knows of a less restrictive fuel water filter chime in, the better this ol girl sucks the better i feel, hahaha come on!!!

Your smoking Crack or your Gauge is before the filter so the pressure rise is telling you its clogging up and restricting the flow. pressure rise is a product of resistance to flow.

Bull Hauler, The age of the truck leads me to believe you need check the fuel lines for swelling. This is one of the major causes for low flow. Pull the line off at the inlet side and push a #2 phillips screw driver down in the hose and if it seizes then under extreme use the line may be collapsing enough to drop your fuel pressure. You do not want to sacrifice a good filter for flow because injectors are expensive if they seize up. check both ends of all of the inlet lines to the engine the same way. You may even have to use an air hose nozzle to blow through the disconnected line to make sure the hose hasn't collapsed at a bend in the line or where it is clamped down.

Another preventative issue is to change the hand primer pump, if it hasn't already and there is an outside chance that your transfer pump is worn out.

Restriction impeding flow will only cause a pressure rise if the restriction is on the pressure side. A restriction on the suction side will reduce pump pressure and that's where your primary filter is.

I don't know the specs for the Cat filters, but they don't really rate filters by micron alone, so those #'s are very misleading. A larger micron may not flow better. The important rating is efficiency. A filter rated at 98% efficiency at 10 microns means that it captures 98% of contaminants that are 10 Micron. You have to know both to know what you have. They may rate a filter at 2 microns, but that could mean 50% efficient, so it's only filtering 1/2 of contaminants 2 micron in size. The 3rd thing to know is flow rate.

We use Baldwin BF1259 for a primary on out Cats and never had a problem. They are rated at 98% efficiency at 10 micron with a 90 GPH flow rate. I don't know how that compares to Cat filters.

Gauge sender us after the secondary filter right off the housing, not just going by pressure but the truck is running great when it shows 85

last fall i had all new fuel lines, fuel pump, and hand primer pump put on

ive been tryin to figure this out for awhile, To keep the fuel pressure in the 80's, it just runs like night and day difference.

You don't want to get rid of the fuel water seperator, the other filter would not capture the water and send it thru the injectors.

Fleetgaurd FS1212 on my primary runs way better than a Cat filter IMO. I don't have a pressure gauge but I do have a restriction gauge and I have a lot less restriction with the FS1212, MPGs seem to be up a little too.

Go to Marine Filters.com. They sell Racor fuel filters. I own two lobster boats and use the 900 series on 3406 cats. They changed these units for the better. U can see any crap in the filter and water. I put the 900 on my 379 using brass triple barbed fittings-push on. so far it has worked great because changes are a lot less messy and only takes 5 min. to replace filter. one thing you must do is put ball valve on filter as not to lose suction.Wait 'till you see the prices. you can get 2-10-30 micron. On the boats, using the Racor, I change the "primary", on the engine every400 hours. So far it has been 1,400,000 miles and never had a problem with my system.Filter can go anywhere. Mike-Z

I replaced mine back in 2004 with the FASS that is also a booster fuel pump and well worth the investment to have a clean fuel system.
