Any grads from the Del Mar school in Corpus on here? I am going to attend the school and I would like to know how folks feel about the school and if it met their needs. Thanks in advance.

I was going to attend, but changed my mind and decided on just going to FFE training academy for free with a one year contract. Del Mar is very fast paced. I have heard the instructors are good there. I think you are done in just three weeks. Have you already decided what kind of driving you want to do? I would think there may be some oil field driving jobs that may hire new grads from there. I wanted to check to see if companies actively recruited there myself.

Yes I am going into the oil field once I graduate. No OTR for me. If I want to spend weeks/months in the road I'll stick to my current job.

It's ironic, but I'm am trying to get into driving because I want to spend more time at home.

Also bumping this thread in case anyone from here has any insight from a student's perspective. Currently looking into this school, also does anyone know of any other schools in the Corpus Christi area?

I finished the del mar cdl program on april 1st of this year. It is a really good school to go through, instructors are real helpful and you get maximum seat time compared to other schools ive heard about. They have a total of 12 trucks there. The older trucks you get to beat on and get comfortable while your practicing in the yard. The newer trucks they use during your last week while your driving on the road. I really liked it and would recommend del mar college. There is just an older man instructor that everyone says you should avoid. I luckily didnt get to drive with him but the last day he #####ed a guy out because he almost hit a cone.

SVTN has a terminal in Corpus Christi and hires new CDL grads. Good company and make $55K - $60K per year.

I am scheduled to start on Sept 2nd. As it stands now I am looking at going with Schneider Bulk. SVTN said 1 year minimum so maybe they changed.

Schneider Bulk or SVTN would be good.
A driver posted this week, soon to graduate from CDL school, he applied for SVTN in Florida, but they told him right now they're only hiring in their Texas terminals. Apply with the online application and see what happens. Sometimes if you call a terminal, the terminal manager may have different ideas than the corporate people. With the online application, the corporate people make the decision.
