I haven’t been around here in quite a while, but after yesterday I need to get this off my chest.
Location: Manheim Dallas
I have been noticing a trend over the past few months that is disturbing at best and detrimental at worse and I wonder the cause. Maybe it’s the economy as a whole Im not sure, but whatever the reason I certainly hope it stops.
The number of 3, 4 and 5 car pick-up pulled trailers in the market is staggering! I had to deliver Wednesday evening to a Toyota dealer south of Houston and because of bad weather earlier in the evening back toward Dallas every spot I wanted to stop at for the night was jammed full of trucks so I ended up driving back to Dallas arriving at Manheim at 4am. I woke up at 10am Thursday morning to the ensuing circus.
These people going out buying a 1-ton pick up and Kaufman POS trailers is mind blowing. I watched as one after another park however the hell they want, blocking lanes, stingers, whomever and whatever, with absolutely ZERO consideration for anyone is mind blowing!
They literally get out wearing g flip flops. I watch two clowns trying to stuff two 1 ton flat beds (9’ beds) and a Subaru Outback on a 3 car trailer and when they finally realized the outback wouldn’t fit they just pulled it off to the side, strapped down the trucks and drive off leaving the outback sitting in front of a stinger who then couldn't even get out. These guys weren’t local either. Had Maine plates on the pick up and trailer.
I could write more and more about what I witnessed there yesterday. One car trailer backed into an suv of guy trying to get enough room to load his stinger then tried to drive off before he was stopped by another driver. It’s MADNESS!
So if you’re one of those 3-car guys and you think you can do whatever you want out here screwing up a business that MANY OF US HAVE WORKED IN FOR YEARS to build the YOU ARE THE PROBLEM!
Consider you are in our world. You came in here yourself. You weren’t invited. So be kind to the rules and consider who and what you are and what you’re doing.
Yes I know Im sure I ticked off some people but this has got to stop. I love what I do. Im 60 yo and I have no desire to stop what I do. It keeps me young and active and I love it. But you guys are giving all of us a bad name and you need to stop!

It amazes me where some drivers park, regardless of what they're driving, be it tractor trailer or hot shot.
That said, I do see higher frequency of hot shot being ignorant of not only courtesy for others, but being blatantly disrespectful of others.
I get that we all run out of hours at some point.
I know that we're fried extra crispy mentally at the end of that clock.
How do we help others do better?Another Canadian driver, Kozakvod, Hammer166 and 1 other person Thank this. -
A car hauler pickup is a job for new immigrants. They can not get a CDL right away when they get here, so they start from pickups.
I am an old immigrant myself and belong to few Facebook groups where every single day someone new who just crossed the border is asking for a driver job.
When I immigrated 20 years ago it was crazy hard to get into this country. Nowadays people literally fly to Mexico, walk to US border and get in. Few weeks later they can get a driver's license and start hauling carsAnother Canadian driver, Cwoodsmash, rollin coal and 7 others Thank this. -

I believe there are multiple factors of inventory issues, one main one is manufacturers don’t want to go back to pre pandemic levels of inventory and it is the reason why we have a downturn. They literally want to switch over to order based system.
now as far as the hot shot guys, it’s the trickle up effect I guess. Copy of a copy of a copy of a copy isn’t going to be 100% pristine. More experienced and qualified drivers move up in rank and the idiots get filtered out. But due to the turn over rate not enough experienced or common sense guys come into the field, leaving the door wide open to people who havnt even driven a car in their own country.
stupid multiplied faster than common sense.
I also believe if a broker is held responsible for the load instead of the carrier, they would often choose the costlier service provider with the best record. Since carrier insurance covers damages the broker is only looking for the cheapest carrier, the shipper still gets paid for the load and doesn’t care who the carrier is most of the time, the receiver is the only one getting the shaft due to lack of inventory but at most times it’s easily replaceable.lual, Another Canadian driver, gentleroger and 5 others Thank this. -

Instead of doing it right, quickly, it's become do it fast as you can, no matter how sketchy. I see loads everyday that are unsecured, and often a foot or more higher than they need to be, solely because loading them right would take a few minutes longer.Another Canadian driver, ducnut, rollin coal and 4 others Thank this. -
