New to O/O looking at percentage based pay. At 65 to 70%, what is average rate per mile I should seek to keep from pulling "cheap freight"?
Is there any rule of thumb figure?

Where can I go for rate info?

Also what rate is reasonable for detention?

That's a loaded question. You will ask that at 10 different tuckers and get 10 different answers. My definition of cheap fright is not making any money on that load at all. 1st to find out what is cheap freight is for you will have to find out what your CPM is ( Cost Per Mile) If your CPM is lets say for the sake of discussion is 75 cents and lets say for the sake of discussion you get a load going to Miami, FL
That is 3.50 per mile. You will be lucky to get a load out of there for .80 to 1.00 to some that would be cheap freight but I would take that cheap freight that pays .85 not far only in a lane that I know that I can get better freight at Jacksonville, fl or up maybe a little further. Make .10 cents a mile. Get paid for the miles and get in a better lane. Because I have seen guys sit in Miami, FL for 2 days or dead head up to Jacksonville, Fl and get paid nothing. you will get guys that's say Dam it don't take the cheap freight. If you stop taking it the will pay higher. Nope they wont it's supply and demand plus its been that way for 35+ years, and they been saying that for 35+ years

I'm seeking some rule of thumb. Consider u are in midwest or western NY or Virginia or Fontana. Is 1.50 to 2.00 ok? I know loads range up to 3.00.

If truck is not getting a steady fuel surcharge then this must be factored into the price.

I the truck costs 1.20 per mile to operate (toting all fuel costs), then 2.20 per mile would be decent right? What are epectations to loads at this rate?

I hear van freight rates increase in spring as more reefers convert to reefer loads.

But what can I reasonably expect to see as a rule in good lanes?
