now know two truck dealers who change ecm/ miles on used trucks. has any body else suspected dealers doing that? heard rummers before. yesterday went used truck shoping and one cascaia had less than 100mi on odo dealer toldme they had to replace a display because it was cracked but ecm showed 400k. and Volvo showed 600k when you press button on the right but when you start it it shows 400k and was 400k in the add. and those are factory dealers.

I dont see the issue with the first truck you mentioned. The odo was replaced and the dealer declared it as required by law.

dealers been doing this since the industry has been around.
no difference between a factory truck dealer and a used car salesmen. they both want your cash.
you should not be surprised...
when i got my truck, i called the old company who owned it and pulled the records to verify info.reefer101 Thanks this. -
Although ive never seen that big of a discrepency, ecm mileage and odometer mileages usually never match. I'm not tech savvy enough to know why, they just don't.

OP if that's what worries you why not just buy new -
here is story my body told me once. one guy traded in his old truck for a new 780 and later one guy was asking around if any body knew some body who was selling a old truck, so that one guys friend told him to go check out that truck at the dealer because he knew that truck and what was done to it and how many miles on it. so that guy came to a dealer and the milage was 200k less than what the preveus owner told him.

I would like to sell a truck to one of these guys that don't care about a few hundred thousand miles here or there.....tell them anything you want. Nothing to it....

My odometer quit working about 200,000 miles back. So all that is ticking off miles now is the ECM. Even when the odo was working it was 5,000 miles apart from the ECM. I would go by ECM miles off any potential truck I was buying. Of course they could have gotten an ECM off a wrecked truck with 100,000's of thousands less miles but highly unlikely IMO. They don't give away new ECM's. Unless an ECM was faulty it likely isn't getting replaced. It is not even possible to reprogram miles in an ECM.

If an odometer is malfunctioning or replaced it must be declared by the seller BY LAW.
In thr case of an odometer replacement it is a FELONY in most states to adjust the odometer reading in any way. Even an adjustment to match the ecm or original it is still considered tampering and carries large fines and possible jail time.
