So I was told to drop my load at a drop yard, grab an empty and drive 600miles back to a terminal. I’ve always been told companies hate to deadhead so now I’m paranoid I did something wrong. At first they said bobtail but then was told to grab an empty.
It’s been about 7months I’m wondering if I could be getting called in for a random drug test or if I’m being fired for something I did. I haven’t hit anything or broken anything. I have set my G force sensor off a few times but it’s super sensitive and the trucks system didn’t go off just the smart drive thing. The main terminal is only 100miles from the terminal I’m going to so idk.
I just love this job and don’t want to be terminated.

To the point. What’s the longest you’ve been made to deadhead, and how do you know if you’re selected for a random?
    I drive for CFI, thanks!

When I pulled tankers, 50% off all miles were deadhead.
Some companies do that. Depends on if they really need an empty or if the trailer is a dedicated trailer.
I was out of Nashville and regularly ran loaded to the west coast or Washington state, unload, then deadhead back to Nashville. Paid the same both ways for me because I was a company driver.
Maybe something is going on between you and the company; no big deal, you love the company, but many other companies are just as good or better and waiting for your application.

Let us know what happens. There's usually a pretty good reason for a company to dead-head you that far.

They can set up randoms any place, so I doubt it is that.

If CFI were going to fire you I doubt they would deadhead you home. It would be a drop lot and a bus ticket.

My guess is they need to reposition equipment. I deadheaded from OKC to Green Bay because we had way too many trailers in OK and were going to need a bunch in GB for a special blitz. It happens, don't worry too much.

We do a lot of deadhead here at FFE. a lot for a different reasons.

They had a lot of teams bobtailing from Dallas to SLC to pick up a bran new empty trailer and drive it empty back to Dallas, and drivers have been doing that over and over again.

The result now is trailer overflow at Dallas and nowhere for me to park. I feel like I am at a truck stop. Lol.

I wouldnt worry about it. Even if you are getting fired, you'll be employed again as soon as you want probably. Enjoy the drive.

Call Freymiller, or Holland, or DOT.

You may be getting a new truck. Just because they are asking you to bring a empty some 600 miles away isnt a reson for termination. If they were terminating you, they would have done it at the closest spot. Tho I have heard of companies telling the driver to go to a hotel and reposess the truck while the driver is asleep.

Companies will give drivers a better truck after they have driven for a while. Do let us know how you make out.

Once in a while I get a new truck this way. Of course no one tells me nothing with one exception.

One company the Frederick dispatcher had some fun with me. I walk in he loudly with profanity demands I clean out my truck right now I am finished with it.

Start waterworks. Wonder why entire office laughing, then I get angry and They flipped it saying relax man, you got a virgin tractor out parked in your spot for you. Sometimes I wonder.

Deadheads? I don't worry about them. Its still trucking empty or not.

If you ever worried about a drug screen, keep that to yourself. Because that is a red flag for previous drug use of some kind. (Legal or illegal)

Op, if something was going to happen, it would have.

But you have to understand when you move a trailer, under orders, it is just to move something they need not to set you up,

I had drivers move trailers a lot farther and didn't think twice about it.

Big company's don't worry much about deadhead. There is another truck that makes enough to cover the DH they give you. I think they just need an empty trailer at that location. Or that trailer needs to go into the shop for some reason, maybe it's due for inspection. It isn't that expensive to inspect on the road, but sometimes mechanics tack on stuff that doesn't need to be fixed legally.

    I wouldn't worry.
