Looking for advise on who to go to to get a replacement/rebuilt ECU. Mine failed yesterday apparently from a voltage spike caused when the trailer wiring converter failed (I'm using it to pull a 10ton converted gooseneck trailer so I have an adapter harness made up to go from the 7 wire heavy duty to 7 pin RV style). The truck is currently parked at a farmer's place about 5 hours away where I went this weekend to pick up some stuff that I bought and he was nice enough to let me leave it there while I fix it, however I've got to get it out of there by next weekend, so I have a week to find a good ECU.
I was able to verify that the ECU is bad by swapping in another ECU that came with the truck. Old one wouldn't start at all, appears to have no power to ECU. With the other one it start and runs normally, however this is one that the previous owner had replaced because it was bad. Not sure exactly why he replaced it, but didn't want to take the risk of having it die and leave me stranded.
I have the failed ECU with me, and I have the serial of the currently installed (original to the truck) ECU for them to program a new one to.
What I'm looking for is who is the best to go to. There seem to be a number of places on google and ebay advertising rebuilt units or rebuilding service but I don't know which are legit and which are fly by night places that will send me junk. This is a truck that doesn't get used much, but I need it to be reliable when I do need it, and I have no way to test the product I get until I drive down there and install it, at which point it's going to suck if I got a bum ECU from the rebuilder. I'd rather not spend a huge pile of money on it, but I am willing to pay for a decent quality product.
The timing is also important here since I absolutely need this in my hands by friday, so need someplace with a quick turn around.
<edit> Frieghtliner wants $1800 w/ 700 core for a reman. I'd like to get it cheaper than that if possible.
Truck is a 99 Freightliner C120, engine is a 12.7 detroit 500 Hp.
I do not have the engine serial number - the valve cover appears to have been replaced and there is no sticker on it.
Thanks.

where are you located? I ask because there are 2 people I would recommend to take a look at it....1 in NC, the other in IL
-
Seattle WA. The truck is in Portland OR.

IF the other one starts the truck. Do you get any warning lights? Let it run until the trucks up to temp. It may well be a small deal wrong with the old one. Or the Battery may be dead on it. Do you know anyone with a reader? That could hook up and see what shows up as wrong? When that ECM is hooked up to the truck?
