Looking at a '93 KW, has 12.7L 60 Series, 425hp. I know they switched from DDEC II to DDEC III around this time. Anyone know which one would be in a '93 model truck? What are the differences between the two as far as reliability and fuel mileage? I searched and everything Detroit related seemed to be addressing newer models. Thanks for the help!

They started using DDEC III in 1992 so that's what the truck should have come with from the factory.
    Edit:
Just remembered that there was a 92 or 93 kw with a series 60 in it that I worked on that had DDEC II, I believe you can tell what version it uses by the part number on The ECM

Thanks. I knew it was sometime around then. I figured there might have been a transition period where both engines would be available in the same model year truck. Similar to how you can get pre-emission and emission engines in 07 trucks. Any huge differences? Would one be preferred over the other for any reason? I'm new to Detroits.

I have a '93 Kw W9 made in June of '92. It has a DDEC II in it. It has had a few simple mods. done to it. It isn't a big CAT but I like it for the fuel mileage and the parts are pretty cheap.

Why did you swap? What's better about the DDEC III?

What kind of MPG are you getting? What weight are you pulling, gear ratio, tires, trans? Thanks

there are some old MAZ trucks here with Series 60 (Euro-II emission). If DEEC-II fails u cant find it on JY, so I used to rewire and install DEEC-III ore DEEC-IV ECMs. But sometimes boost pressure sensor ore ECT reads wrong data and I used some sensors from donors.

DDEC-II is made before flash appeared, this unit is not so flexible like DDEC-III and later.

If or when a ddec II fails most shops will upgrade to a ddecIV because it is hard to find an ecm. And Detroit does not support DDECII anymore.
