I have a ddec 5 14l that has had the egr deleted. We recently did an overhaul on the enhine due to leaky head gasket. The issue we encountered is we have very low boost at 1500 rpms we have about 3.2 psi of boost. It keeps throwing codes "turbo speed sensor" and VNT vanes not responding. Also when the truck is off but key is on it would say 2.2 psi of boost pressure. Now we changed the wiring harness an was able to get it to read 0 boost when off . but still we can't build boost. The turbo boost sensor has been replaced twice an we got a different ecm programmed for non egr but we run into the exact same problems of previous ecm. Any suggestions what it could be?

On the front side of your EGR valve there is a teardrop shaped cover that is held in place by a 10mm bolt. Loosen the bolt and move the cover so that you can see if the EGR valve is open or closed. Horizontal line is closed, vertical is open. Next check requires laptop with DDDL program so that you can check vpod output to turbo actuator.

Ok thank u. I will check that tomorrow when we get back in the shop. My question is. Since all the egr has been deleted and I forgot to mention the turbo has been replaced to an after market one that doesn't have any sensors. Would checking the vpod actually show anything. I believe the vpod is disconnected.

After hearing that, you are correct. Vpod is no longer in play. EGR valve must be in closed position at all times, even though it is non functioning.

Don't sound like it was deleted right or it would not be looking for turbo speed nor VNT vanes

Problem is it was deleted years ago n has worked great until this overhaul we did on it. So we got it checked by our computer guy and he couldn't find any problems. But the issue remained so we got a new ecm and programmed that but we get the exact same issue. It's been a head ache

what im saying is if its deleted from the program then the ecm is not looking for them extra parts

Yes your correct. Both them sensors should not be a issue. But it is. But why did it work great for years not throwing them codes only until after we did the over haul on it. We didn't touch anything related to the ecm. And we got a new programmed ecm from a different person who does egr deletes, he used the same calibrations that he has used on other ddec 5s that have not had any issues. So that's why we are stumped
