Firstly, i have changed fuel filters on this truck before and am well aware of the issues you have with priming them, but this one has me beat

Changed fuel filters on a 2017 DD15 with the 2 fuel filter set up plus the water seperator. Primed the system as I always do with the primer, pumped it a good 1000 times. But man this thing wont fire.

After turning it over I checked the main fuel filter and its pretty much empty.

Spoke to my mechanic who gave his air pressure fuel primer, a little home made portable thing, it made no difference.

It will fire on brake cleaner for 2 secs before stopping.

I opened the second small filter and primed it with the cap off, but full of diesel until the air bubbles stoped coming through, then some more pumping.

It doesnt even try and fire, nothing close except for using brake cleaner.

Am I at the point of towing it to a shop?

Any other things I should be trying?

I've only owned my truck enough for 1 fuel filter change. I had the dealer do it. Because I'm terrified of this exact thing.
All I can ask, are the O-rings in place? Pull the filters and check for blockage in the filter housings. Maybe a work rag fell in.
    Good Luck.

They don't run on air. Some guys have to prime the system with a hand primer or get creative and vacuum the air out. There's plenty of videos on the youtubes about how to prime the fuel system.

Pulled them all off and checked them, cant see anything wrong with them. No bubbles in the water seperator when cranking.

Two things I noticed, after cranking sometimes the hand primer is doing nothing like its got no fuel on either side so its just pumping air, when I fill up the filters though it pumps fuel.

2nd on is, the level on the water seperator doesnt change when cranking, I thought it usually goes down when crankong whilst its full, but maybe I am wrong on that.

When I watch videos of it, everyone talks about the fuel primer getting stiff, or when using the pressure systems that they stay pressurized, my hand primer never gets stiff (even before when I primed successfully) and when I put pressurized fuel into the port it just takes all of the diesel (about 3litres) and it just seems to pump it through

    Am i missong something?

A "tech" told me that it can require 300 plus pumps on the hand primer for a dd15... if that's true or not I have no clue but in my experience if you don't get the hand primer to start to feel like there's serious resistance or pressure then you're gonna have a rough start if any at all and that's with a much older injection pump, not with the higher pressure injection pump like you have which is likely much more finicky in terms of air in the system or low feed pressure.

Are you cracking a bleeder to release the air while hand priming? It's vitally important in the equation.

I have no clue on a dd15 but if it were me I'd be making sure when I pumped the primer that fuel was making its way to the inlet of the injection pump or as close to it as practical for checking. You could be pumping/priming against a cushion of air trapped in the line to your injection pump for all you know. I don't know much about the dd15, but I do know a diesel isn't gonna start on air!

How long are you cranking the engine over for while trying to start it?

Til your starter overheats or your batteries give out.
