Had the crankcase breather go bad. Was dumping oil out of the bottom like mad. Plug was bad and apparently not throwing a code till it got bad enough to puke oil everywhere. I’m not a mechanic and the owner already replaced it to the tune of 400$. My question is, can someone explain to me what the purpose of this is as opposed to just the old crankcase breather tube and how could it possibly be throwing so much oil out? There is apparently no other issue causing excess pressure in the crankcase.

Recycles the crankcase fumes as they now count crankcase fumes as part of the total emissions from an engine.

Appreciate that, I guess I’m curious about the VOLUME of oil it was discharging so quickly. I’d stop for three minutes and have an oil pool the size of my two size 13 boot prints. Is there a lot more blow by in these new fangled engines?

Copy that . It was slit of oil . Mt Airy NC to northwest Ohio went through 1.5 gallons.

At 500,000 miles the breathers are supposed to be heat damaged and replacement is recommended. How many miles on this engine when that happened?
