You sure he didn't say a "1 by 3"? That basically means it has one transistor driving three.

Davemade amps to my understanding are dirty over modulating amps but some people in the CB world are all about power, regardless of how clean or dirty the signal is.

Nothing wrong with Davemade Amps, I've been running Davemades for years, and there's nothing dirty about them...If the signal is "dirty" this usually means the user is using a radio thats either over modulated, or Peaked & tweeked & clipped to where it bleeds all over the Band when used with a Amp...In which case it would not mater what brand of Amp is being used, the signal would be what is called "Dirty"...The Amp just "Amplifies" whatever go's into it...

"Dirty In= Dirty Out", only LOUDER!

As for a Davemade 150 powered by 3 makes no since what so ever...I have no idea what he's talking about...There is no such critter as a 1x3 either...

There is a 1x2, which is sometimes referred to as a 3-pill...But it will do more than 150w's.

Check out "Davemade Mobi's" Web site for more info on Davemades...

Dave Made is one of the better Competition amps out there. They are for the most part well built and take a beating. But you need to find out what it is before you buy it. If the guy doesn't know then have him open the case of the amp and count the number of pills you see, they actually look like big aspirins. Then you will know what it is and how much it's worth. As a rule of thumb, the more pills you see the more bills it's going to cost you.

"You know you've been on the road too long when you come home and your wife says "I ain't got no panties on" and you respond with "Shaddup stupid!" I have GOT to put that on a T shirt!!!

Perhaps my memory is a bit clouded, but my understanding is Davemades are a class C amp, and class C amps tend to be dirty when used on AM. Yes a dirty radio can also cause the sound to be dirty.

Yeah they're definitely a competition amp. For a powerful set up. Isn't that what the kids on channel 6 run?

Heh you should do that. Or put it on a bumper sticker. :biggrin_25514:

Be very careful of buying a used amp. I don't give much for them unless I know the person I'm buying them from and how to get a hold of them. When I buy one it goes straight to the shop and gets checked out before I ever hook it up. It is very easy to get burned on a used a amp.

    Come on Mike .......

Your amps are well broken in .....

You even showed me how you let the SMOKE out of the pills before you sell them ....

Nothing like a SMOKE FREE AMP .......:biggrin_2556:

The class of most CB amps is not the reason they are dirty, its the reason they are non linear. Over drive and over modulated radios is the reason they bleed, IMD would still be as bad even if it were class AB or better. The kids on 6 generally don't mess with transistors unless they are nobodies, those guys don't stay long anyway. The radios generally heard on channel 6 are the worst when it comes to dirty, not the amps.
