I need to add a few more toggle switches to my dashboard for various things (like moving my cruise control switches there; my truck came with cruise control switches on the shifter for some reason.)

What is the best way to drill the necessary holes without otherwise damaging the dash, and I also want to add the little label holes above each switch like the stock switches have.

I would just give it a try, but if I screw up, I suspect Peterbilt charges about $5,000 for each dashboard plate (judging by their other parts prices.)

I assume you mean round holes for toggle switches. If so check behind panel first . Cover area with masking tape to protect, mark hole center and use a "step" drill bit to drill holes. Step drills work well in thin metals.

    txviking Thanks this.

I have only run toggle switches to cover chicken lights But be sure to get a bit big enough to drill it right the first time, I messed up one time and didnt have the right size with me and had to rheem it out not fun or perty.

But its simple I do suggest you take the plate off and drill as oposed to drilling on the dash course thats common sense i reckon:yes2557:

Dash panels are pretty cheap, as well as common on fleebay..

If you're taking them out of the truck, or not for some maybe..
The Plasma Cutter is the only way to fly..

If you don't want to take it out of the truck, and don't want to risk a fire..

That wood laminate is some pretty tough stuff if your worried about it fraying around the edges or peeling..
Just drill slow and don't let your bit slip and take a walk across your dash, leaves a nasty trail, been there done that..
For the square holes, I just mark it off, get all I can by drilling small holes, then just finish the job with the Dremel, because the dust from grinding is harder to clean up than drill shavings that a shop vac will get..

    Good luck!!!

Step drill is perfect for what you are doing. They are not cheap. Normally come in 2 sizes. Just know what is behind and make sure to put fuse at your power source not at load.

Dashboard is definitely coming out of the truck for this one. I'll look into the step drill; thanks for the tip!
