Iv got a truck im working on for someone else. its a 1994 2wd ford f450 bucket truck. They initially thought a transmission problem and asked me to look at it. problem quickly found the problem was in the rear axle. first thing pull a shaft. broken in two. good news right easy fix. right? well that is if i can find a new axle shaft. Its a dana 80 i found a stamped number in the flange after i cleaned it up and the number although hard to read appears to be "43651-1" I will be pulling the opposite shaft to verify measurements listed for that part number. however a truck parts house i was talking too said they don't show that part as being available at any of there suppliers or Dana. however they did say they may have some other sources. but wanted to know for sure we had the right number before trying that route.

the parts dealer i was talking to is a big truck parts place, i hardly ever work on anything as small as a f450 any more so im not really up to date on the best parts suppliers for these things.

the listing i have from a spicier parts book lists that part number as 37.67 length flange face to end of shaft 1.60 spline dia - 37 spline length 1.75 flange diameter 5.17 bolt circle 4.33 8 bolts (Still need to verify these measurements off the intact axle shaft)(Also does not appear to be offset to either side so both lengths should be the same will verify this as well) so far have varifyed the flange and bolt measurements appear to be correct need to pull the opposite axle to remove the broken portion anyway.

knowing the dana 80 is a pretty popular rear end in custom/off road applications. I am wondering if anyone has any good reliable aftermarket source for this axle shaft. I don't want to spend forever trying to track down this axle shaft and need it fairly quickly. (don't need it yesterday but asap anyway) as reasonably priced as possible.

If that part # is unavailable, all is not lost. Junkyard would be the best/cheapest option, but you may not find one.

That is a fairly popular rear in the aftermarket. You can get one made easily and in many cases cheaper that OEM. Call a local speed shop and ask about a Moser or Strange axle. They will have blanks ready to go that they cut to length and cut he spline. Usually ready to ship in 1 day.

If you have no local speed shop, Summit Racing or Jegs is an option, but a little harder to give measurements over the phone. Both Strange and Moser have a form though that you can email or fax them that will give them all the info they need.

The Dana 80 was in all F-Superduty trucks (not F-250 or 350's. The F-Superduty was its own model. It is retroactively sometimes called an F-450, although that model name didn't exist back then). They ran from 88-97 (two different front clip styles). Should be quite a few in junkyards. I know someone who has one lying around and I could ask about a shaft, but shipping would be a lot from NY.
