I started school at Dalys Truck Driving School on Monday. The facility is fantastic modern building and a very large practice range. So far the instructors have been great. Our instructor is a master instructor with many years of driving experience. He does a great job making the general knowledge, combinations and air brake instruction interesting. He also gives us a lot of insight into the trucking business. He has old school values and tells it like it is. For the remainder of the week we will cover log books, FMCSA, retest on the required basics and take our permit test. Next week we start practicing the required DDS maneuvers on the yard. From what I have seen they will go the extra mile to prepare you to pass the CDL test. Today we also received our packets containing applications for pre-hires. Will keep everyone informed on how it is going.

However, besides all that, congratulations. Let us know how your schooling goes. Always nice to read fellow student stories. Here is a piece of advice a few drivers I know have given me. Driving the equipment you might feel discouraged at some points, just keep your head up and know the instructors are there to work with you. If you feel you need help on something or your not 100% confident in a certain area of say backing skills, talk to your instructor.
I start school on Monday, so hopefully I will see you out there on the road!
Edit: I also read some of your other post, I'm glad you took the time you had and researched. It is a downfall for many people who seem to start it and can't finish it. Knowing some of the things to expect to come is a great thing. -
You have shared such a good thing about truck driving school, now newbie will know from it, what the they will learn from truck driving school

You are correct on the website. School is located in Buford, GA not far from the Mall of Georgia that offers plenty of lodging and eateries. The program is 3 weeks plus CDL testing. Our class is 12 students. There is plenty of equipment on the yard. Student teams are made up of 4 students per instructor for behind the wheel training
Good luck on school, hope to see you soon on the road. -
I went to CDL of Georgia in Winder, Ga. Great school with terrific Instruction.

We have finished up General Knowledge, Combinations and Airbrakes. We did reviews today prior to getting permits tomorrow afternoon. We spent part of the day doing log books and finished up with a FMCSA open book test. Tomorrow prior to going to the DDS for permits we are going on the yard for a coupling demo. We then start next week on maneuvers for the road test. I already have a Class "B" so I only need to take the combination test. So Far So Good. Also started filling out applications for the pre-hires. So far the hardest part is deciding who to send applications to. We have had three recruiters come in this week, Swift, TransAm and CT Transportation. CT is a flatbed company out of Florida and Georgia. I really didn't think I wanted to do flatbed at my age but the pay and home time is tempting me. CT is part of the ComCar group and they have about four different carriers that work in and out of the same yards. You can easily transfer between the companies. (Flatbed, Line Haul, Tanker and Refrigerator plus an owner operator division.)

Nice man, glad you had a good day.

Daly's was a great fit for me. The instructors seemed experienced in the trucking industry , and were very willing to answer any questions the students had. 12 students per class / 4 students per instructor during yard and road manuevers.
My only complaint is that you use a different truck to take the actual test in than the one you train in. Other than that, great program.
