Have a few friends that are there now and have moved on, But they all say the same thing alot of sit and wait! Alot of dead head and alot of equipment breakdowns
-
That's the nature of the beast. I've seen quite a few Daily step decks, but the majority that I see are the 6 and 7 axle rgns. The average 6 axle Rgn is going to be in the 44000 lb range empty. There's a lot of loads you can't haul when you're that heavy. The bigger you get, the less miles youre going to run in a year and the more deadhead miles you have. A 2+3+2 will probably sit for a week or two between loads and when he gets the load will probably have to deadhead 1000-1500 miles to get it. And that 2+3+2 is 90000 lbs empty. He probably won't run more than 50000 miles in a year. During that year, he will probably snap an axle or twist the driveshaft, have to continually get the trailer repaired. And that 12x12 dunnage isn't cheap either.
The waiting and deadhead is part of the job.BullJockey and botoler Thank this. -
Triplesix, When I was running my 13, I never did snap an axle. The only time I twisted a driveline was stuck in a wind farm mud pit being pulled with a dozer.
They paid for the tow and drive line..
My mty. weight was 91600.
You are right about the sitting times.. I know things are slow now every where.
My deadhead was right at 50%. -
I don't know, but I been told that Daily runs all of their freight through an in house brokerage BEFORE it makes it to the trucks and the rates reflect it.

This is "NOT" true. Have 47 years experiance with Daily.
dannythetrucker and baha Thank this.
