So my Dana Spicer (or whatever their company name is now) rears have blown the input seal on the front drive.
The bigger problem is there is a lot of play in the drive line where it goes into the axle.
I'm told that there is a locking nut behind the bearings (if there good )and if this nut has backed of that would account for the play. If the nut is tight and the bearings are good I've got problems .....
Monday's head ache.
Thoughts...?
D46-170HP seal leak?

That rear had some issues with the input shaft adjuster coming loose:

If you're lucky, you caught it before bearing damage. I don't know how old it is, but you may want to check for warranty. Spicer usually does stand behind their stuff, even if warranty is out when they find a defect.blairandgretchen and Cat sdp Thank this. -
With a build date of 9/07 I would guess I've got the updated ones. The rears have 480k on them and other than oil changes and wheel seals have never been touched..
I've got the seal kit in hand. The bearings are only sold as a cone kit @ almost $500. And none available locally . So I wait till it's apart ,and overnight them if needed...
I believe the adjusting nut issue (update or not) is my problem..... We shall see.Last edited: Jan 9, 2016

I'd still check warranty, I think our Spicer's in our Pete's have 10 year, 750,000. It might be 7 year 500,000, but in the past, they've been pretty good about helping even after warranty. Time is always a factor too, save $5-600 in parts. but lose a few grand in loads because warranty takes too long sucks too.
