D16 reliability

Run like hell from a d16 !
No resale value.
My 07 was a money pit.

 

Curious what issues did you have? I heard that cooling was an issue for the big displacement engine?

 

Constant sensor issues ..cooling system issues .
Harness issues .
As an engine it was fine and got pretty decent fuel milage .
Parts availability was an issue also along with very pricey to work on .

 

I have no personal experience but all I've heard is bad. They like to be run very hard or they are even more trouble. I just can't get my head around that being a good option.

 

Mine got very good fuel mileage if I kept my foot out of it and had lots of power .
It had its areas where it really shined but the bad outweighed the good .
The other issue was that there were not a lot made so finding a competent dealer to work on it was a headache too.
From what I've heard I had one of the better ones .
In my area they got such a bad rep Volvo dealers wouldn't even take them on trade and those that did sent them right to the auction.

 

How heavy gross will it run at?

 

Actually mine was an 07 and I had no emission issues with it ...it may have been a early 07 tho .it was a very clean running engine and I ran mobil 1 5w40 in it on 70k drains with filters pulled at 35k .
Never used a drop between drains and stayed clean forever .
The only mechanical problems I ever had with it was a oil leak at the injector harness and that stupid high pressure cooling system...after that it was always sensor and electrical issues .
