I saw an old thread from years ago, what does a decent paint job run ? My truck is an 05 Peterbilt 387 with a tall sleeper all one color blue. I am doing the body work on the truck now, it is not in commerce so time is not that critical, a good job at a reasonable price is more important than time or location. The truck is in Kansas but I will take it where it has to go. I travel to the west coast often, the Carolina's too.
Thanks,
Steve

A "decent paint job" description probably varies from body shop to body shop, but if you want a quality paint job that's going to last, you need to use a paint like DuPont Imron or the equivalent from another manufacturer that's made for commercial vehicles and can withstand the elements and the harsh conditions of the road and still stay shiny after years of use.
I called up a friend at TEC of California, Fontana's body shop and asked him what a complete would cost, a guesstimate ball park figure.
He told me about $11k which includes taking all the fairings off and masking, prep, paint materials and labor.
Also since you are doing the body work yourself, he would need to know what you used, as he has to make sure the materials he uses are compatible and don't cause a reaction.
Of course that's just one shop's estimate without looking at it, some shops may be less, some more. -

Depends on what model truck and how deep you want to go. I have been quoted $4,000 to $6,000 for just the body of my midriff ProStar. Pull the tanks and such to do the frame rails, $10,000 +

The old post from 2015 mentioned places that did "good" paint jobs from 1500 up, I know from material prices the cost of a "good" paint job will be over 2 grand in material alone.
I am using the materials any good body shop would in the repairs. The Metton repair process I am using is directly from the company. I am familiar with Imron and JetGlow paint from airplanes, not sure single stage paint is the original process on an 05 Pete? I would want a good quality finish either single or two stage. The truck has the lower fairings extended and, there are some repairs to the tank covers. All in all the repair work is mostly seams and inner structure.
While I am not expecting show quality at Macco prices, a "good" paint job to me is, high quality materials, proper surface prep, competent finishing skills and, long term durability. The truck is parked inside when not in use, I plan on keeping it for a long time.Attached Files:
