Hello everybody.
I was wondering if anyone of you have knowledge of the (as advertised) Cummins Signature 620 GEN II engine? I live in South Africa and we have this engine mostly running in the Freightliner Argosy. I know this engine is also being used in Australia (from videos I saw online)
The reason I ask you guys is because I can't find any info about this engine online. All websites including Cummins only mentions the Signature 600 not the 620. Is this engine unique to South Africa, Australia etc or do they just advertise it as 620HP because the 600 Signature reaches 615HP @ 1800rpm (according to Cummins online spec sheet) ?
Here is a pic of the badge (low quality):

Is this a specifically tuned engine for the specific markets or just a Marketing trick used by them (selling horsepower) ?

I think you get more or less the same B Train spec Argosy as we get in Australia with 620 HP Cummins as an option. Complete with uncomfortable short wheel base, except they are a little longer here now with an update in rules.
You can get the 620 HP in new Kenworths.
The 2nd video was good, very professional.FRANK_WOT Thanks this. -

Thanks for the replies guys but my question is not with regards to the Freightliner Argosy. I'm interested in the Cummins 620 engine.
The top of the range ISX and Signature is rated at 600HP right? So where does the 620HP engine you find in SA and Australia come from?
If you look on the Cummins website they don't mention the 620hp engine. The closest to 620HP is the normal 600HP ISX/Signature which reaches 615HP @1800rpm.
Do you think they over-advertise the Horsepower on these engines and therfore sell it as a 620HP ISX? -
Get a CPL & ESN & you can find the spec's on Cummins website, or dealer.FRANK_WOT Thanks this. -
It seems like the one I'm reffering to is the CPL8246 model (ISX3/Signature). I'm curios if the extra 20HP is worth the money and also if this configuration has any impact on the longivity of this engine. It seems to be good idea to not run a engine at max power rating but on the other hand it does not look like 620HP is the max for this engine. I'm quite impressed by the amount of different configurations supported by the ISX. Must be a very well developed engine. -
Well developed, yes. As a parts guy & driver I know a bit about them. Engine is pretty much bulletproof. However...it's been my experience in the 2 I drove ( 475 & 500 HP )...constant de-rate & regeneration problems. Everyone else in the 80+ fleet most had the same problems. When they ran right....killer. but what engine will I have today, & for how long? I wouldn't pay premium for a few ponies...spec the gearing/trans right for what you'really doing.

They actually sold a 650 hp version in the US up to 2010 for the RV and Firetruck market. They may still offer it. I think in the beginning they actually underrated the HP claims on it. Is it worth the extra 20hp? I do not think it is. I would guess that all of the parts are the exact same between it and the lowest rating in that family.
