has anyone used Cummins Restore and Restore plus ? from what i can find out the restore is good to remove oil and sludge, and the restore plus is good to remove rust and scale. my engine has all these problems (oil, rust, scale and likely sludge also) so im thinking i need 1 bottle of restore and 1 bottle of restore plus.? and that i should use the restore first to remove oil and sludge, and then follow by useing the restore plus to remove rust and scale.?

After hours of searching I found out how to use the Restore and Restore Plus. So I thought I would condense the process and post it here for anyone else that needs to clean out their coolant system.

    Drain coolant from system

Now add Restore and fill with tap water. Drive truck or run on high idle for 60 minutes. Drain and flush once..

Make sure that you set your heater to high while doing this to flush out the heater core as well.

Then add Restore Plus, top with tap water, and drive the truck or run on high idle for 60 minutes.

After the cleaning solution is drained from cooling system, fill the cooling system with plain tap water. Operate the engine at 1200 to 1500 RPM until thermostat opens. (Do not reinstall the radiator cap. Leaving the cap off facilitates inspection of coolant flow in the radiator along with eliminating the cool-down time required for radiator cap removal)

Drain the tap water from the cooling system. and reflush until the flush water comes out clear and clean.

    Install new coolant

P.S Make sure you operate the engine for a min 60 minutes with sufficient load to open the thermostat

P.P.S 1 Gallon (3.8 liters) of the Restore cleaner is satisfactory for a 12 - 14 gallon cooling system.

Question, why would you let your water in the cooling system get that bad ? Don't you run antifreeze coolant and the purple stuff in it ?

It was an over sight on my part, from when i did the inframe. When i did the inframe i had no way to clean out the system correctly with the engine pulled down. The truck sat in the previous owners yard for about 18 months before i puschased it and it was a mess,

ok i used the restore plus today, droped coolant then flushed system 3 times, then installed restore plus and drove for 90 minutes, stoped and turned engine off, let it cool down for 30 mins then drained the restore plus out and flushed system until only clean water was coming out, then flushed another 4 times. when i drained the restore plus the colour of the water coming out was very simular in colour to red coolant, restore plus appears to work very well. I will let you all know if it solves my over heating issue.

If it's a heating issue, I would of had the radiator gone through and change the thermostat.

yep I agree, thats my next option if this does not work. im trying to avoid down time, because as you are aware to have a radiator shop recore, etc means downtime and no money coming in for a day or 2
