I am buying an 04 Volvo with Cummins ISX 400hp engine, 10sp, 3.55 rears. I know this engine can be turned up to 500hp. Is that hard on it? Will it kill my mileage? Thanks!

The higest horsepower you could go with that engineis about 470hp-475hp. If you want to go higher than that then you would have to start swaping parts. You should still get descent fuel mileage. It isn't going to be hard on the engine at all.
Oldironfan and grimesjm1 Thank this. -
Be careful... you may exceed the transmission's torque rating doing that. Of course, knowing what model of trans you have would help...
grimesjm1 Thanks this. -
Dealer just told me about that....I'll have to check. he thinks it was 1675 ft lb but wasnt sure -
Call Bullydog, PDI or Pittsburg Power and your questions will be answered.

The high hp settings on those blocks give a whole new meaning to crank walk.

mine is an 05 475hp with a 13spd and 3.42 rears. i had mine turned to 600hp against the advice of the so-called cummins experts and love it. more power and mpg went up to over 1mpg on some loads and around .5 on the rest. now if i could just figure out how to get rid of the egr hiccup it has. a new egr lasted less than 6 mths and now it's back. this was on going before the computer work so that didn't do it.
