I have a '08 cm871 isx with full delete done. I've been using the baldwin oil filter mostly but recently switched to the new fleetguard oil filter. The lf14000nn instead of the old lf9080. Question i have is....to continue with the old lf9080 or balldwin or keep using the new lf14000nn filter? The only reason i ask is, reading up on the new fleetguard oil filter cummins says to use this new filter for isx15 2010 and newer mototrs but is fine on all isx motors. Since using this new filter, i've started to have to add more oil between services. I used to add anywhere between a half to full gallon around 10,000 miles but now i'm adding a half to full gallon at 5,000 miles and a half every 3000 miles after that. My top up oil has doubled since using this new filter. I've only used it on my last 2 services. That's the only thing different that has changed is the filter itself. Could this filter be causing the oil consumption by chance? I have no leaks.
I changed my oil today and went back to using the baldwin filter again to see what happens. I'm hoping my oil consumption goes back to normal. We'll see i guess

I use the 14000nn on a cm870,with 100k on inframe. Change oil at 10-12k. So far it's never been more than a pint low.
How does your crankcase filter look?

I changed that on my last service. I thought at the time that, that could be my issue. It had 120k miles on it when I changed it. So right now the new one only has 15k miles on it

Only one ISX here and it is not mine, a 2013 with about 250,000 miles, It was at a truck dealership for regen problems and they replaced the canister. A couple of weeks later issues were back but I do not know what was done. When the driver dropped off the replacement company truck he had been driving he said the dealer said" You have to stop using the filters and the oil you are using". Something mentioned about oil in the exhaust and this special oil is $70 a gallon. I called local Cummings and she said the LF14000MN superseded the LF9080 and the special oil is called restore. The oil is a one time deal that removes all the carbon deposits from the top of the pistons, then go back to regular oil and 25,000 mile services with the 14000 filter. I said it has a factory filled Delo 400 LE sticker on the frame rail so I am OK too continue to use that, right. Regular oil. That is all I know and hope I did not miss quote anyone.
I do not see how that would change your oil consumption but please let everyone know your results.

I set out today. I'll see how it goes this week. Hopefully that fixes it but we'll see. I could be my valve seals but it just seems like a coincidence that the filter was the only change that I made and all of the sudden I'm using double the amount of oil.Crossing my fingers. Lol.

Well 4000 miles in and no oil used so far. Its still where it was when i changed it. Im starting to lean towards that fleetguard filter now being my issue. We'll see what happens in another 2000 miles i guess

I'm up to 6400 miles now and still no top up oil added. My oil hasn't dropped at all yet. I usually have to add some around 9 to 10,000 miles. Its looking like that fleetguard filter was my issue still. I'll post again at the end of next week with any results

Have you seen any difference in oil psi.
Only reason I can think of is the 14000 was getting plugged up.

    blr300 Thanks this.

My oil pressure at idle (600rpm) with the new 14000 fleetguard was higher...around 22psi. With baldwin filter it was back to my normal range of 19 to 20psi. At high idle (850rpm) with new 14000 fleetguard filter oil presuure was 30 to 32psi. With baldwin filter my oil pressure was at my normal range of 24 to 26psi. Both filters had the same psi of 34 to 35 psi at cruising speed. I have a scan guage so i can read exact oil pressure numbers.
