I have a 2014 389 Peterbilt with a 550 Cummins ISX. Oil temp is running way too hot. 250 plus when loaded. Truck is not being used until this is resolved.

The rad was replaced a month ago and coolant temp rarley goes above 195. Stays about 180 most of the time.
The oil temp sensor, oil cooler and oil thermostat have all been replaced since the problem started. I’m completely baffled. Please help.

It will go up to 260 and keep climbing unless I pull over. Oil temp light comes on and I get the service needed warning. Has always run warm but never above 245.

I would be installing a mechanical gauge to verify that it is actually getting hot first. Does the temp match ambient cold in insite?

Don't those engines have thermostats for the oil cooler? If so it may be a place to start looking.

Is your engine fan not automatically on at 215? Try using the manual fan switch while climbing. If you are lugging engine below 1400rpm on hard pull, it won't cool as quickly as keeping revs higher. Was oil pump checked when replacing oil cooler? Was upper rad pipe purged of air when refilling coolant for new rad? There should be a drain #### on aluminum pipe. If not, run truck with surge tank cap off to 185 (thermostat opens) to eliminate any air. Buy a $20 inferred heat gun, scan engine pan, oil cooler etc. for actual oil temp. Maybe you bought faulty oil temp sensor (most are made in Mexico) And then there's the datalink... oh joy... the datalink. You could possibly have a rubbed-out wire on the data-link. Usually in the engine compartment main harness that runs up and over the valve cover, or near the passenger-side firewall. If you scan for actual temp, and it's lower than gauge in dash, that could be your issue. Eliminate the small stuff first, before rushing to conclusions about mechanical damage. Hope this helps.

I have same problem with my D13 Volvo engine. But oil gets too hot only when going heavy up the hill. (On flat roads it’s in normal range.) Cooler temps comes up to 210 and fan goes on. Then coolant temperature drops back to 190 or so. That’s when going up hill. But oil continue to rise up to 270+, ( at least that’s what gage tells me) until msg appears ENGINE OIL IS TOO HOT! And then engine shuts Off. It only started happening this week but never before. Nobody I talked to ever heard about coolant staying normal and oil temperature rise that high. Oil and coolant levels are at full. No oil in coolant or coolant in oil. Any ideas!??!!

You have a solenoid on oil filter housing, right behind the oil filters, it opens and closes just like coolant thermostat to send the hot oil to the oil cooler to cool it down. It’s not that expensive around $100 and maybe like 1 hour to replace. If you keep driving like that you will overheat your engine and damage it.
