After the shop changed the idler and belt on my truck, the belt squeals whenever the fan engages. The routing appears to be correct except for the fact that the belt only contacts about 1/4 of the fan pulley--from 12 o'clock to 3 o'clock. This wouldn't seem to me to be enough to keep the belt from slipping.
Can someone snap me a pic of your ISX belt routing and post it here please.

All you need is a short vid doing your best impression of John Madden descibing your problem. lol. Sorry, couldn't resist.
stayinback and lilillill Thank this. -
Problem solved.
Gates belts do not have enough grip. Installed an OEM Volvo belt... no more squeal.

Heavyd Thanks this.

Paraffin or surf board wax applied to both sides of the belt will shut them up sometimes. Apply while running and watch your fingers.

how do you release the tension on the smaller belt behind the serpentine one?

My friend Had a converted commercial 32' alum. dive boat with a 360hp cummins and when we would drift and sleep at night with all the electronics and deck lights on on the tuna grounds. When we would start the main engine in the morning our alternator would chirp like a b!tch from the amperage pull to the multiple battery banks. 2 for the main, 1 for the genny, 2 for the house all on isolators.

I would yank the belts off then clean the pulleys off with mineral spirits and a rag. Using a brush to get in between the grooves would be a good idea.
