hello, we have a 2015 isl 8.9 and it randomly died and now wont start back up. fuel tank was about 25% full and we filled it to the top. replaced both fuel filters. Opened up the fuel link going to the fuel pump and there is alot of fuel coming out when we cycle but then we opened up the injector rail line and there is no fuel coming out from there even when we crank? So seems like fuel is going into the fuel pump but nothing is coming out? anybody know what would cause that to happen?

Do you know where the fuel pressure regulator sits? Btw put a new fuel pump head on it aswell.

I would suggest using QSOL and TS engine cranks but will not start. You could toss parts til the cows come home.

Faults logged upon hook up? 559?

No idea what’s wrong with that but, you reminded me of a nightmare I had. I had one of those, when it was brand new, for a year. One of the worst experiences of my life. I can’t even remember everything that went wrong with that ####ing thing. Cummins had some problems with that engine. Half the time they didn’t know what was wrong with it either. All I can tell you is a brand new trucks out of service % was 3 times that of the ‘89 it replaced. In the time I owned it it spent more time at Cummins than working. It’s no longer here. I can’t even imagine what those are like miled up.

Figured it out by just spraying some starting fluid while cranking. I guess had a lot of air in the system. The auto fuel primer pump when turning the ignition on didnt help at all because we cycled the ignition probably like 80+ times lol. I almost never use starting fluid but this time i was running out of options and we needed this truck asap.

Next time keep the spray in your box.

Air gets trapped in the common-rail and acts like a cushion that the pump cannot overcome.

Crack the high pressure line from the HP pump to the rail. Loosen the line at the common-rail. The nut has a relief cut in it to the fuel does not spray toward you. Crank the engine until fuel comes out and then retorque the line- Should fire off shortly after.
