cummins isx15 offers an extended engine warranty for EPA 2010 and 2013 trucks meeting certain criteria. its called ENCORE EXTRA and is $4150 which will also include air compressor, turbo, injectors engine sensors and something else warranty coverage. The warranty covers 2 more years or 200k miles whichever comes first.
For anyone familiar with this offer from cummins....Is this warranty worth the money?
I think it is but have been reluctant to purchase this extended engine warranty.
just wondering what anyone else thought about this.

thanks for the ping.
Encore Xtra costs varying amounts of money based upon the engine model, HP rating and EPA year. In addition to the base cost that Cummins charges - each dealership may mark it up more.
Whether or not is it worth it will depend on each individual person.
Encore Xtra is not nearly as good as their normal extended warranty options (Protection Plan 1, Aftertreatment) and it costs roughly the same amount and in some cases it costs more. The options for it are also much more limited as are the coverages.
With that being said - Encore Xtra is the only first party coverage for Cummins for engines over 200,00 miles without extended warranty.
One last thing to note - your engine must meet certain criteria in order to get Xtra - it must meet age requirements, mileage requirements, and there is an inspection that must be done by a Cummins dealer. If the engine does not pass the required items - the owner must pay for it to be brought within the specs.
So each Encore Xtra purchase has the additional possible cost of repairs necessary to bring the engine in line with Cummins requirements. They do offer an "Xtra Incentive" which is an additional, more detailed inspection but of course means more potential repairs - but at a discounted price of the coverage. One thing off the top of my head that comes to mind is the oil bypass valve needs to be replaced if it has not been done already.magoo68, Tug Toy and daf105paccar Thank this. -
Is anyone familiar with the criteria regarding eligibility? Maybe a model year or mileage cutoff?

Encore coverage has overhauled 2 of my trucks at no cost. One was $30,000 and the other $28,000 so it’s some of the the best money can buy for your operation.
Must be 2nd owner of the truck and be under 6 yrs and 600k miles to buy it. If your buying a truck I recommend having the dealer send it to Cummins for the pre warranty inspection and if it passes buy the truck and then buy the warranty. If it doesn’t pass the inspection then make the dealer fix whatever is needed first.
Buying a truck at 300k and getting this coverage and running to 500k and selling is what I’ve done on all my trucks before I started buying new ones. -
You do not have to be 2nd owner. (Ignore this - see response below)Last edited: Jun 30, 2019

I thought it could only be bought after factory warranty was up? -
You know what, I am mistaken. Encore is for 2nd owner - but I can tell you that I have had success with putting it on engines owned by first owner. Cummins isn't always very strict.
But yes - it can only be purchased after the factory warranty is expired. Whether or not you're able to add it to the original owners engine is another story. I've personally had Cummins reps tell me to recommend it to customers as an option.Midwest Trucker Thanks this.
