Hey guys, I've got a question about trailers that haul liquid nitrogen and oxygen/hydrogen etc.:
Because of all of the road vibration and perlite compaction that damages the tank/ trailer, how often would an average 6000 or 7000 gallon trailer need to be refurbed/reinsulated? Can anyone tell me a typical cost? Im currently working on a project to better insulate cryogenic trailers and this info would help me and eventually the industry greatly...
    Thanks

I am leased to a power only carrier, Trailer Transit, and a portion of our business is moving those cryogenic trailers around to repair facilities because of 5 year inspection requirements. Air Products, BOC, Linde etc. have to have all pressure vessels retested and repaired on specific DOT schedules. Very expensive, as are the trailers. Not uncommon to haul 1960's or older equipment that has been refurbed many times.
Contact a company like Weldship in Bethlehem PA for more info. Several outfits in Texas do the same work, in Houston and Amarillo.

back in the day we rehabed steel trailers(LOX) every 4 years and aluminum trailers(LAR<LIN) every 5 years but now I think we are on a 12 year program..( I dont think it will work IMHO) historically we had all air ride this saves a lot on vacuum problems ,older trailers were perlite newer are super insulated( WRAP) perlite works better until it packs around bottom and leaves the top uninsulated...super insulation is much lighter and easier to work with during rehab..we were running late 1960s J Russell trailers (not many) they are as good as trailers 30 years newer as long as they are rehabed...as far as price to rehab I cant say we have a private rehab at my terminal...you may be able to contact AMCO( praxair) in Gnadenhuten,Oh ,FIBA or Alloy custom in Lafayette In to get an idea on prices...

I cannot tell you how often they need to be rehab'd but as I'm sure you know a new one of these will run you $250,000.00. That's why we have to pull these rehab'd dinasuars around.
