1994 W900L with Detroit, sometimes the cruise control will engage, most times it won't. Most times, fast idle will engage, but not always. Help!

Check clutch and or brake pedal sticking or not fully coming up all the way is the most common issue. Make sure the pivots and linkages are free. If you get it to not work try pulling up on the pedals. Next most likely suspect is either switch sticking contacts clutch or brake switch.
HTHOxbow Thanks this. -
To make fast idle work, switch must be on, hit set or accel switch, park brake must be set, clutch and brake switch are ignored.
For cruise, switch must be on, hit set or accel, park brake released, service brake released, clutch switch applied.
Common switch for both situation problems is the actual on/off switch and the actual set switch.Bean Jr. Thanks this. -
I agree with you also have found the switch loose on the frame

Bean Jr. Thanks this.

I'll rule out power switch and get back to you.

Parking brake switch make that problem, cruise/fast idle intermitent problems

I think i may have discovered something. When I kick on the fast idle, the cruise won't work. When I don't it does seem to work. I'll try again to verify.
If that's the case, what do y'all think of that? -
I appreciate everybody's help. I had to leave the truck running this last week because of the single digits and below zero. 2 things happened. First, the fan turned off, and second the cruise control started working all the time. I don't know what was wrong, but it's working now.
BTW, it really is needed as it's a dual torque DDEC 2, so when I'm on the pedal, it's only 355 hp!Oxbow Thanks this. -
