I am looking for info on crude oil hauling companies that operate out of the Bakken area. I am a noobie to over the road, but I do have tanker experience operating a Cat 773 in Wyoming at the Black Thunder coal mine.

So names of companies that hire Hazmat/Tanker endorsed Noobz will be greatly appreciated!!!

:biggrin_25513: :MEGA1:Most companies require 2 years experience. North Dakota is the coldest state in the lower 48.The roads are slicker than a gut, the mud is horrendous in the spring and the rent is outta this world.......

Growing up in Montana, and working in North Dakota, Wyoming, and Montana for years I know what I am getting into.

Craigslist ads. Hit 'em. Send no personal information beyond your name, email and phone number, until you talk to a human being at the company. Do not work for owner-operators unless you enjoy donating your time for free while sitting in a truck waiting for repairs. Stick with companies with over 100 trucks. You won't know who they are until you hit those Craigslist ads. Forget about the ads that state they have a "client" looking for drivers. Your email to the legit ads should include questions about income, hours, housing and pay periods. Do NOT work for anyone who wants you to wait a month before getting a paycheck.

Black Thunder is good work... why the change? Coal not doing well?

Coal was doing fine, I wasn't a direct Mine employee, I worked for URS, so pay was limited. In order to get hired direct by the mine, I would have had to go through a Temp agency, and take a pay cut for a few weeks. I was considering it, until I got offered a job by a company in Idaho that paid twice what I made in Wyoming.... I worked there for 6 months, and the company lost it's contracts and folded. Smooth move. Instead of going back to Wyoming, I decided to get my CDL.

I just sent a app to a family friend who is working down there, and hopefully it works out. In the mean time, I am still looking for companies down there.

Great point about the Owner/Ops, and the delayed payment companies. I know a guy who is owed 13k right now, and probably won't see it until he gets lawyers around.

I worked for Wylie Bice for over two years. You will find many an owner op/company driver with complaints. They are now owned by QC Energy. Lower rates, less competent dispatch, and more politics. You could find better. I hear Diamond B in ND is hiring owner ops now.

You better get some oilfield driving experience before u start hauling crude in ND.. One incident or spill well END your driving status up here... Go haul water for a year or two... Then go haul crude.... You will be glad u did.

I started this thread in February. Believe it or not I have found employment, and am actually changing companies next week.

I have no idea why you posted on a months old thread. Just let it die, lol.

It might help out inexperienced drivers looking for work up here. Who is your new employer?
