Can a driver with a CDL Permit cross state lines as long as he has a driver in the passenger seat who has a full CDL in the same class or higher and both individuals are well over 21?

So a CDL permit is only good in the issuing state until It becomes a full CDL? I figured maybe you could get away with it since you can with a regular drivers permit. Thanks folks! If anyone knows a loophole feel free to share! Looking to keep my driving record squeaky clean!

One of the big training co. tryed to get a release from part of that law so traine could use his or hers learner permit like a cdl before that passed the test?

Wow you guys are soooo wrong, the CLP allows you to drive anywhere you want, as long as it is under the direct supervision of a CDL holder of the same or higher class.
The exceptions are tankers in some states and all hazmat loads.
Oh and some states require the person who is in charge - the second driver, to hold the same state license and the permit holder.
The only restriction that is there is the insurance contract that prevents a company from allowing this to happen and that's not common.6carsingleaxle, Longarm, UsualSuspect and 2 others Thank this. -

Because different states have different laws and regulations.
In Wyoming, for example, 14-year-old drivers are eligible to hold a drivers permit, while next door in Colorado, prospective teen drivers must wait until reaching 15. There are some states (hello, New York) that make teens wait until 16.
Most states are upfront about out-of-state driver permit holders. Oregon requires out-of-state drivers to be at least 15, New York requires them to be 16, and Nevada has no age restrictions, provided the operator holds a valid learner permit and is accompanied by a licensed driver.
I know the CDL schools around me in Nebraska, drive over into neighboring Iowa and the students are on permits.. so some state lines may be okay to cross while others not...6carsingleaxle Thanks this.
