And that can change drastically once it's opened up.

I paid 25k at Interstate Power Systems in Omaha, which included head, injectors & harness, turbo, water pump, oil pump, bull gear, and rear seal and main structure.

Miles since the rebuild? 66k. On the engine when it was done? I don't remember? The engine was on my shop floor for 12 years. I think 1.1 million miles.

With all the truck wrecks, I'd bet you could find a decent used low mileage Detroit, and eliminate the rebuild "nightmare". In all the time I've been here, it seems, one of the biggest complaints is how some shop shafted them, and the ensuing problems they refuse to stand behind. Detroits are very popular, and I'd go that route. You'd be back on the road in a weekend, compared to possibly weeks. Your choice.

Prices have gone up quite a bit in the last 2 years. I’d find a reputable shop, one with good references. Expect 10-21 days downtime. Make sure all parts are available beforehand. Price can vary a lot. $15-$25k for the same work. Some aftermarket kits are good, and about 30% less.

A shop in Pierceton, IN wanted 28k last October for a complete out of frame-block and straightened included. They used aftermarket parts- PF something or another was the brand. That was only 3k more than I paid for Detroit.
