I've had an ongoing problem with my coolant adding at least a gallon weekly. I replaced the cap and am wondering if u have a ad thermostat I have a cat c15. Is there a way I can test the thermostat ? I'm trying to eliminate the cheap things first but I have a sinking feeling I may have a small crack in the head. Any suggest would be appreciated 07 Pete 387

Get it to a shop ASAP. Eating thru that much coolant is not good. Is there coolant leaking from anywhere else?

No, no leaks anywhere. This being my first truck, after being local for years (driving a co truck) I may be a bit naive but I have put a gallon a week for 2 years. I would think a head or gasket would have presented by now. I honestly thought it was a normal part of the coolant system. And my stack seems to be clean, I have a reliable shop back home we are all puzzled

First take a clear water bottle about half full, put the end of overflow tube in bottle and see if it bubbles. If not you may have a leak you haven't noticed. Or could be like me changed coolant filter last service over filled, took three weeks to push all out.

Dumb question 1st, are you over filling it? Did you try to leave it a gallon low, we've had drivers that filled them all the way to the top and pushed it back out. They complained that it's been using a gallon or two per week, once I showed them the proper level, it didn't use any more.

I only fill 3 inches below the top of the neck the sight gauge is poor to say the least! I'd rather it was the clear resovoir

Also when you do the bottle test, take the oil fill plug out,put you're hand over hole. Another good way to check for compression leak. Plus what grapeape said, used to run a 6nz,would push a gallon of oil out in two days. Finally quit adding oil, stopped pushing oil, must of had wrong dipstick

I was at one time losing 3 gallons every couple day's did not hurt anything for about 2 weeks, found out it was blown head gasket. I was lucky it did not get worse while I tried to figure out what was going on.
