Boild down to do you want a certified CB (LEGAL ) or a EXPORT SET ( ILLEGAL ) Real world is there is no BIG CB radio but if a big radio is what you want many of the high power exports should fill the bill ....

EXPORTS offer more power and even illegal modes like FM they also have bands of channels which again are not legal but that is why people buy them .....

As for Connex 99% of the export radios are built with the same cheap parts not that that is all bad .... Just like the illegal linear amps when you build something that is not legal and you have no rules to build it to there is little reason to make it good or clean ....

But again your taling $120 not $1500 like many ham radios run .....

If your happy with your 949 keep it go buy a linear amp to boost it up ...
and have fun with your toys ....

I won't get technical, I'll just tell you that they both make great radios. I'm more of a Connex fan and I loved my General Lee that got stolen but I'll definitely buy another. The Connex mics suck but most stock radio mics ain't worth a ####. You'll find that most guys like one or the other so it's more personal choice then anything.

I am on my third connex. First was a 4300Hp that was being pushed too hard and always ran HOTTTT. It finally gave out after 3 years of service. I purchased the 4300-300 which was an awsome rig that did not run as hot. It got stolen after only having it a week. I know have a 4600 turbo. It is doing the job nicely with great comeback reports from some impressive distances.

My only gripe with the connex line is the bright ### blue leds. I have to tape over the things when running at night as they absolutly kill a persons natural night vision. They are litterally blinding. I wish they would remove the eco and reverb altogether and use that knob for a dimmer or something like VARIABLE talk back so I can talk to myself over the radio on those long boring nights.

I kind of like the looks of the new connex but wish they would offer it up with the power of the 4600 turbo or even the 4300-300.

More of a Galaxy fan here. Love the extra features and the starlite faceplate. I own a General Lee as well but I have no need to buy any other Connex. Just not a fan.

LOL the talk back is really only good for adjusting the echo. But if you really want talk back, that's nothing short of soldering the right resistor across the external speaker jack and the PA speaker jack.

I guess CB radio theft still happens eh? Used to happen often in the CB heyday.

My personal favorite is a general lee I had a connex 3300hp for several years untill someone decided they needed it worse than i did. I bought the general lee in its place and i think its a great radio. I also have an older 29 with the connex board and few other little things done to it and its a good talking radio. Them main thing with any radio is to have a good mic with it

I've got a conex 3400HP. it talks good and clear and loud enough to be noticed without all the amp crap. I love it but the multicolor display in these radios causes a slight hum in the speaker. Allof them do it. It doesn't affect the radio and with the dimmer turned down low where I keep it you can't hear it at all. even on bright you can only slightly hear it when it's squelched quiet and the truck is off.

the multi color dislplay isn't necesarry but it is pretty neat lol

I have a Connex 4600 and had the same complaint about the blue lights. I cut a couple of squares of window tint and put them on the meter and channel led and its much more tolerable now. I still cover them with tape sometimes though.
