Ok so I just got my statement from compass lease via the carrier I terminated. I ran this brand new Hyundai for like 6 months for $175 a week and got charged $1450 for tire and break wear. Is it me or is that a bit excessive? 33/32 of an inch on tire wear? WTF that's over an inch! I'm assuming that's total wear on 8 tires. They look like new yet. 6/32 of an inch on break wear.
    I won't be leasing again. Buying a 2012 Wabash DuraPlate for $20,000.

    blairandgretchen Thanks this.

    I believe they charge about $35 bucks per 32nd per tire. 5/32nds would be 5 x $35 x 8 = $1400.

When it comes time to turn mine in, I will make sure they have the measurements done right then and there and signed off on. My basic plan is to buy a trailer and swap the brand new tires off the trailer I am buying over to the leased trailer .

I didn't lease it directly from Compass (carrier did) so no it wasn't altho I figured some sort of wear and tear charge. Just didn't think it would be that much in just 6 months.
The trailer I'm buying has about the same wear on the tires so no trading them.

you mean there want anything in the leae/rental agreement you had with the carrier stating there would be a charge for tire or brake wear?? what were the measurements when you received the trailer?

33/32 means you added rubber to the tire so they should pay you.

Excuse me? Nothing in the lease hardly qualifies as an open and shut case nor am I some ###### N00b learning this business. I expected some charge even tho it was never mentioned in my lease. I just think it was excessive and with nothing stating this I think I have a case if I thought it was worth the effort.
Also a $28 charge for replacing the nose plywood that was as new as the day I took it.
No matter. I won't lease another trailer. I also won't lease my truck to another carrier. I have 4 or 5 good brokers with good paying loads that can keep me busy 5 times over. THAT'S the lesson learned.

my point was not that they were not ripping you off, clearly they were

my point was that you didnt do due diligence before and after, which may have covered you from them ripping you off

i do the same thing and have gotten burned a few times being too casual about things, to this day, i still watch guys change a flat because too many of them have stripped my lugs and you dont find that out till the next tire change

i hate standing over people doing their job, i hate when people do it to me, but i figure if i dont watch them, it will burn me in the end
