So im a owner/operator hauling pipe for a company as a contractor. They take a percentage of the pay from each load I deliver. I just recently was paid 6 hours of detention where they took their percentage of money out of it. Has anyone ever heard of a company taking money from your detention? I was under the impression that detention in 100% the drivers.

I don't know about all companies, but my last company took their percentage from detention. Any revenue generated to the truck brings revenue to the company you lease on with.

I will try to put this in the nicest way I can, because it isn't my intention to be a buster:

You have to refer back to your operating contract. You signed a contract outlining all of the various compensations and percentages and whatnot, and you were given a copy. For you to have your questions regarding detention pay signifies that you did not bother to read the contract that you signed. Shame on you.

I understand that wasn't what you wanted to hear. But you're talking BUSINESS, not feelings. Why not take the time and review your operating contract now? Lot's of time, you will have people that will tell you that you need to lawyer up. I think that before lawyering up in a situation like this, you need to review your business agreement with the company that you leased on to.

It is why many here are warning drivers to avoid fleet leasing (fleasing). If you didnt want these costs, then you should have got a loan from a bank or bought it outright (presuming you had the finances)

It's my truck so I have the bank loan. I'm just leasing it and myself to the company. That way I dont have to buy a trailor and fight for loads on load boards. I use their trailor and they give me loads.

    TripleSix and Lepton1 Thank this.

He didn't lease a truck, he signed his truck on to run with a company under their authority. Now, if they're the ones negotiating and chasing the money down, and got the detention, they do deserve a cut. What he has to do since he already signed a contract, is negotiate his rates to where the detention pay pays him for his time of babysitting the load.
