Hello wise ones!
It appears CRST will pay for training in Fontana, CA. They seem to be very unpopular, but they would be better than Foodlink (90 days no pay or housing). They require minimal money down (main requirement for me I'm afraid). Are there other companies that will pay for my CDL in the Western states? I am willing to work it off for 12 - 18 months (CRST is only eight).
Company paid training in Fontana, CA?

There are several companies that have 'in-house' schools - Swift does for sure. I think Millis, Roehl, I know there are more. Schneider did, but closed their schools down for awhile. There will be some more people in soon with more input. Oh CR England does, but they're on the same level as CRST.
johnny Thanks this. -
Woohoo! MCT will pay up front as well.

Just an update for other readers: MCT does not hire out of the West. Also, I think CRST will have onerous contract terms. I did find a local jobs program for only $100 plus fees -- but it takes 6 months and is only for a class B. Foodlink would be better I think.
Recent good news for me: I got an excellent IT job for an Internet company. Hopefully they will treat me right.
Plan B is still to get a CDL. -
I got laid off. Economy affecting the company they said. Long haul looks rough out there too. Maybe I will go check out food link.

Lots of companies out there to pay for your school. Just google it and you will find plenty. Fyi most of them are bottom of the barrel companies though. But there are a few decent ones, you just have to look to find them.

Local 542's web page says training for a class A is $3,000.
I am drawing unemployment now, I could easily live in Sacramento and go the the foodlink school.
The idea of chipping in and helping distribute food to people who are hungry is very appealing to me.
But for the best opportunities I should probably save up money and go to a well known school.
I know freight and shipping are way down so this is not the best time to get into trucking, but so is every other industry (accept for guns and war material).
Thanks for reading and responding!
