Just have to chime in here--for those of you looking for a FAST TRUCK--rarely does a day go by--when I am working--that someone doesn't come up to me and say "Man how fast does that truck go?"--and when i tell them I have NO CLUE--they look at me like I have 2 heads! Usually the next question/statement is I wish I had a truck like that or must be nice to not have to do (pick a slow speed) all the time--to which I always reply
"Wanna know how to get a truck like this? There are 2 ways--
1-Go write a BIG check and BUY ONE--and then see how FAST you RUN it!
2-Get the point where it doesn't matter--because you are trying to make a good living and you are a very experienced safe driver--and then maybe someone that has trucks that will still run--might finally trust you enough to put you in one!
    Just my $.02!

I just tell them it RUNS AS FAST AS I ( and price of fuel ) ALLOW IT :biggrin_25519:,

Love to hear the FAST truck guys :biggrin_2553:about waiting 2 hours to get unloaded as a result of HAMMER down and getting to delivery too EARLY along with operating costs are killing them.

Like my dad told me . . . 'A big truck goes as fast as it can, a large car goes as fast as it wants to!'

That being said, I drove one ungoverned truck in my life. I never felt the need to drive 'fast' and usually kept it around the speed limit or the flow of traffic. It does come in handy when climbing hills to not have something holding you back though. That's the one problem I have with governed trucks is that you lose the ability to climb hills as well.

A company truck set at the blazing fast speed of 62 mph, with the engine butchered down to 390hp, with a Qualcom, because brilliant executives love to micromanage everything.. even a fancy electronic log vs a ungoverned truck.. I'll also chuck in a electronic log just to keep you "run legal at all times" guys happy.

Goverened Company truck can run 70 hrs a week legal before reset, assuming perfect conditions (no hills). thats 4340 miles a week (best I ever did legally was 3650) .. anyhow 4340 # .35 a mile, thats $1,519 gross
(the slim chance you'll get paid hub miles (actual miles) from a big carrier is slim to none anyhow!
    In a ungoverened truck 70hrs # 72mph is 5040 miles # .35 a mile.. thats $1764
So as a company driver, you WILL make more money with a faster truck.
Now I know people say .. slower the truck, better the mpg. But a 12 mph increase # 70 hrs is still running over 800 miles a week more than a 60mph truck. .. so if you were getting $1 a mile, plus a .35 fuel surcharge.. wouldnt that
equate to making over $1,000 a week gross to the truck?
    Now for the real math-
A "engineered" truck running # 62 mph will get a average of 6.5 mpg because it will get dogged to hell in the hills.
Lets crunch the #'s (I'm just running gross fuel, other expenses vary way too much)
    $1.00 a mile + .35 fuel surcharge
    # 3500 (realistic miles) a week (3500/6.5= 538.5 gallons of fuel a week)
    $4,725 gross - (538.5 gallons # $4.00=$2154) $4,725-$2154=
    $2571 to truck after fuel
Now for the fire breathing leadfoot!
    $1.00 a mile + .35 fuel surcharge
    @4200 (realistic miles) a week (4200/5.7= 737 gallons of fuel a week)
    $5,671 gross- (737 gallons # $4.00= $2,948) $5,671-$2,948=
    $2723 to truck after fuel
or $152 more going faster or .21 a mile (net)
As a company driver, a faster truck equates to a HUGE difference in weekly pay, and there is no major cost increase to the owner/company. Plus its a lot more stress free to keep up with traffic, than to get passed 1000X a day.
