Been a lurker here for years. Been a driver for 2 years. Ive been with the same company Roehl my entire career. I was a heavy wheeled mechanic when i was in the service. So with that ive been looking into a 94 w900. The rear ends need rebuilt and a few other things the price is right. Ive kniwn the owner for years hes retiring. Im not ready to get my own authority yet. All ive ever done is pull a skateboard. Will anyone lease on a non ELD truck now? I know landstar wants trucks new enough to run an eld. Im not oppossed to an eld just i i pref a non egr truck less bs easier to work on and cheaper. Hell i worked on a few 2-stroke detroits in the service

try some of the local LTL companies near/around you for night time line hauling, or even container companies. you might be able to get in at a waste/garbage plant that needs transfer loads shipped out.

Many smaller carriers will happily take on older equipment that is well maintained. Typically, the larger the carrier, the more rigid their standard, these carriers would be less likely to accept older equipment.

That being said, competition to grow with o/o's is intense right now and the equipment age line is quite fluid.

I second the small carrier option. I’m leased on with a guy that only has 22 trucks and I’ve never been happier. I was lucky and heard about him from my mechanic and one phone call later I was hauling for him that next week.

What I would do is open google maps in your city where you live and type in trucking or transportation and get a list of all the trucking companies in your city. Check them out online to see what they do/haul and make a few calls.

Thanks for the replys. I live 30 minutes south east of the Mackinaw bridge. So i kinda live in a dead zone for freight. But there are a few companies that come to mind.

Last I knew Kaplan in Cleveland has no problem with old trucks. Just must pass inspection every quarter. Flatbed out fit if you never heard of them.

Figured I'd come back and tell all what i ended up doing. The trick i was going to buy fell thru. Ended up moving over to the specialized fleet and do mainly oversized buildings out of iron mt. MI. Thru the course of looking for people who would lease on old trucks i found a ton literally. Im going to stay here for awhile longer and get a little more exp. With the bigger stuff and probably buy an older 4 axle truck and a double drop 2+1 stretch. Im finding out at least for us here at Roehl, hieght pays more than anything.

Bump.. My truck is old. We're working on getting it ready to work very soon. I'm trying to figure out where to go to find decent companies that will take me on. I have no idea where to start. I'm considering Craigslist but will take any suggestions...
