Basically looking to eventually move to Winnipeg, but currently a US Citizen with 2 years of exp otr and regional in the states. From what I understand you need 3 years of exp to use the program, so I'd thought I ask what are some companies I should keep an eye out in the next year or so?
@Chinatown
Mayhaps your magic linkage might know? Currently with Freymiller, but love hockey a bit too much.
Companies that offer the Manitoba province Immigration thingy?

Make sure you do your homework. Oh, and if you choose bison, be careful.
Canadianhauler21, Phantom Trucker and not4hire Thank this. -
Other companies are TransX (Better than Bison, not by much), Arnold Bro's, Big Freight, Keystone Western (I think), Deva Jatt (I would pay money to see you apply there lol), Versa Cold.Canadianhauler21, Phantom Trucker, gokiddogo and 1 other person Thank this. -
I'm a little out of touch with the modern world, (old guy), but if you're granted citizenship before 3 years and obtain your MB class 1 CDL, with 2 years experience you should be able to walk into nearly any trucking company in Winnipeg and get a job.
If you obtain a work permit you should still be able to do cross border trucking, at least until you get baptized as a real Canadian.
During the late 70's I worked as an O/O for International Transport out of Rochester MN and had a friend who drove a company truck for Heyl, out of Iowa I think, but we only ran cross border freight, nothing within either country.
Maybe Polar Industries will hire you and you can be an ice road tv star, if their lawsuit has been settled.
Of course I jest about applying, but not about the lawsuit. lol
Manitoba firms sue company featured on Ice Road Truckers
Good luck.
Edit: A second thought.
I can't really say, but you might be able to drive for a Canadian company without having citizenship, as long as you're doing strictly cross border work.
It might be worth a few phone calls to verify.
One company you might try is Trappers, ask them about the thingy thing and what they know about being an American citizen working for a Canadian company.
When I worked for them in the 90's they were decent enough and had great equipment, and let's say they were more forgiving or lenient than most where hiring experienced drivers were concerned, willing to ignore or sidestep little things that other companies wouldn't.
These days they seem to get a bad rap, but then again most trucking companies do.Last edited: Apr 15, 2019

I forgot, I have a friend of 45 years who drove for Danny for a long time, they were good friends once, was his right hand man before he got fed up and went over to Mark Brandt a number of years back.
I saw him last summer and remember him telling me he doesn't miss Trappers, is quite happy where he is.
It's a shame Trappers and so many others either disappeared or became what they are today, ###### and pimps.
(no offence to real ###### and pimps) -
